I have a 2yo with a really nice set of papers that is a future barrel horse. I know she is not proven herself yet and she is young. My question is, is she to young as a 3yo to do a ET on to a proven stud? Please dont be negative and rude with this question!!

I would think as long as her bits and parts are all ok - go for it!  Good Luck!

ETA - a question for those who do know - I know in cattle when you flush for embryos, the cows will get HUGE. And by that I mean, ribs expand, backs get wider, etc.  Does this happen with horses when you flush a mare?

No. Only 500-1000 ml of flush media is put in at a time.

And to the OP 3 is not too young to flush a mare.

Not to steal the thread but how much does it generally cost at a clinic to have it done? I have a recip mare but not sure if it would be worth it...or is it one of those things if you ask to see how pricey it is then it's too expensive.

Its about $3000-$4500 for everything but the stud fee and semen shipping, just depends on where you get it done.  You will be money ahead to plan on using one of the recip mares they provide.  It won't hurt to check your mare to see if the timing of her cycle will sync with the donor mare, but chances are it won't be quite right.

I originally wanted to use my own recip mare. Basically I didn't want another head to feed, when I had a mare standing around doing absolutely nothing. 1st flush - empty. I was crushed. That's when I realized, it's too risky to get the embryo and put it in something not proven. ALSO, around here no repro specialists would allow you to use your own mare as a recip. My husband has a friend from college that runs a facility so he let me try my own mare, but after that 1st empty flush I realized this embryo was to precious, too time consuming, and already too expensive to try to save a few bucks and use my own mare. As it turns out, my second flush was empty as well. So now we are starting early in the year with lights ... we shall see .....

Soooo, suppose you had no stud fee, but you wanted 2 fertalized eggs. . .Hmmmmm  Have a friend that wants an egg from our mare...to bred to her stud (both very proven)  Maybe we could split the cost and just have to pay the collection and science part.

Unless the mare happened to double ovulate (which does occasionally happen) you would have to flush her twice on 2 cycles to get 2 embryos.
The flushes & recip mare costs are still going to be $3500-5000+ each without the stallion & ultrasounding expenses.  The mare would have to be ultrasounded frequently while she's in heat because you have to know when the mare ovulates so she can be flushed a few days later.

yep. and honestly, if the mare does double ovulate i bet you would have to pay close to the full amount for both because you still have to do the transfer twice and thats where it gets so expensive. the AI and flush aren't the biggies if that's what I recall from when I looked it up.
