Location: Louisiana | Β before I start yes she will be going to the vet. But until then would like input. We have a mare here that my niece is running for a friend, the mare is really nice 1D/2D. Prior to the mare getting her she had so issues other that we could tell she drags her back feet (you can see it and tell by the wear on the toe of her hoofs on back feet) the owner said she was just lazy and did that so we went on, I had my chiropractor adjust her and he said she was right in her stifle from what he could tell and had some soreness in the hip and back end area. She burnt her back leg shortly after on a rope and was off from September until the beginning of November. My niece started back riding her and legging up for a big run on Dec 5th. Her daily routine for a month was long trot 15 mins, lope 10 mins, go over a hill 25 times and trot over a pole (about 5" off ground) 20 times (trying to strengthen her stifles). She did great all month and the day of the run we pull her out to load and she's limping well she been fine all that month so we think it's an abscess and bring her and pack her foot for the ride. We get there and she is fine warmed up great and ran great then the next morning she's limping on the other foot.... We get back home and she's hasn't quit limping and is noticeably lame in her back legs ( she's buckling in her ankles when moves).... Any ideas of what could be the cause ??? |

Have a vet look at her if you can. Good luck |

Location: Beggs, OK | Hocks, stifles, EPM...it could be any number of things, or all of them.
If they stay sore for very long from lack of maintenance they will end up with inflammation in their pelvis that could require SI or whorlbone injections to alleviate. A good lameness vet will be able to give her some relief. |

| Dragging toes is generally a stifle problem.
I would take her to the vet X-ray stifles and hocks. Then check pelvis si joints.
Could also be a tendon tear, minor tears some horse will warm out of and when you ran her she may have tore more causing her to become acutely lame.
I would be taking her ASAP to the vet
Also if a horse is lame please don't try and warm them out of it, they are sore leave them be till you have a diagnosis |

Location: Louisiana | Β I didn't want my niece to run her Saturday, the owner was with us and told us to... Was not by my choice. We both thought it was a abscess then after packing it and getting to the place she was fine. I still brought a back up horse because I would have rather her run the back up and the mares owner wanted us running her. Wish I would have listened to My gut.
