I ended up with one and have never used it. Cash is FINALLY over his abscess from hell so I need to start getting him back in shape. He's lost his entire topline so I want to do groundwork for a while before starting to ride again. I know many english riders use these Pessoa training systems
(and their many knockoffs
), I was just curious if any of you have for your barrel horses.

No but I ground drive all my colts and start to teach them to go up in the bridle and collect by driving from behind up onto the bit, similar to how this would work. What makes me nervous about things like this is where does the release come from and what if something goes wrong? When I'm ground driving and the S**t hits the fan I can drop lines or take all the pressure off, same if I've got a colt who is just being super, I can give him a little break.

I've used it. Just dont have the back straps. It's nice! You can get them to flex and bend but also soften up. It's also nice when your working multipul horses daily.

I can see where you'd definitely want something you can release for the babies. Cash is really well trained and really easy going so I'm not too concerned with it on him.

No - if he's broke well, then I'd go to lots of long trotting.

I have a friend who is a big fan of these. I bought one and havn't used it yet. My friend did say to start slow and short at first because it can make them sore if they are not use to using those muscles. She likes them for helping to teach them to stay collected and give to the bit. as well as build topline.
