My gelding has been off for about 5 months due to surgery. & he wasn't able to be rode much before surgery either. He is now being legged back up for competition. He is a smaller build, thin chest/body stance. He has never been one to 'build' much muscle. But now is lacking it even more with having to be stalled for the past months.

I know its going to take time to build him back up, but are their, or have you had any success with, certain supplements meant to help build muscle? Since he isn't one to hold much anyways, the extra help would do him some good I think.

Thanks for any help!! & Happy Holidays!! :)

Total Health Enhancement makes a supplement calld Muscle Mass. It has all of their daily vits and mins in it too. It takes a lot more than one or 2 thing to build muscle, you need the right ratios of the right vits and mins and this supp takes the hard part out. My mare lives on it and has lived on it for years. You can get special blends and have additives put in it like ulcer preventative, joint, blood flow, nutrawound (healing), calming ect. It really is awesome stuff and is actually on sale this month. It runs about $30/month. There is a dealer on here, Wyoming Barrel Racer I believe is her username.

Your horse may be inherently light muscle.  A good quality protein like Alfalfa will help build muscle.

I also highly recommend THE Muscle Mass. I have had great luck with it. Gives my gelding more stamina. I can't keep him on it all the time though because even as a cut dose he gets too big.

You might give the Performance Formula a try then. It has the same great vitamins and minerals, but isn't meant to bulk a horse up. Also can have the same specal blends made for each horse.

Thanks. I will check it out. I loved what the MM did for him his 4 and 5 year old years but as a mature horse he just doesn't need the bulk anymore. Makes him look like a body builder on steroids lol.

One of my horses had to be on stall rest for three months due to injury. He lost his top line and muscle tone very quickly. My vet suggested Purinas Enrich Plus as a top dress daily. It really helped my guy and was very cost effective.

The Muscle Mass. I order from Wyoming Girl on here. My horse is appendix bred and on the leaner side. He had been turned out and not ridden for months. This made a huge difference on my horse!!!??

Thank you all!!! I will look into the THE Muscle Mass since everyone seems to love it and has had luck with it.
This horse has major allergy issues. We did the testing and he can only have straight Timothy or Peanut hay. He is allergic to everything else. He is also allergic to some of the ingredients that are in most feeds, corn, etc. So he gets beat pulp, oats and Timothy pellets as a 'feed' and as much peanut hay as he will eat. He is naturally built smaller, and with being off he has definitely dropped what muscle he had. Cant wait to give this stuff a try!
