Extreme Veteran Posts: 460	I had a horse that did this recently...it was because he couldn't pee comfortably. I put him on calcium c and ammonium chloride to break up the calcium crystals inside and help him be able to pee. Agreed with earlier comments...first things first, get his sheath cleaned to make sure there aren't any beans. And then if you can rule out anything else...put him on calcium c and ammonia chloride to help everything break up so he can pee. Good luck, hopefully everything turns out to be ok

I have thought about that too. Have given him some electrolytes to try to help him up his water intake. I just went out and checked on him and my other two drank double what he drank. He has only been here a few weeks and may not like the water. He lived at his last home since he was a baby and he is 8 now Just electrolytes won't clear it up. A mild infection--some AE Detox or SL Herbs should work. If it has been going on awhile, you'll need a couple weeks of antibiotics. A vet/chiro showed me a pressure point for the kidney: on the back pastern, in the hollow between the heel bulbs and fetlock. If it feels warmer than the surrounding areas, it is a low grade kidney infection. I also learned this will not show on a blood test unless it is severe, but will on a urine test.

Good luck, hopefully everything turns out to be ok I wouldn't suggest putting a horse on ammonium chloride without consultation with a vet, as a certain concentration is needed, I can't remember what my vet had my one horse on (he had a bladder infection, his symptoms were colic symptoms)

Married to a Louie Lover Posts: 3303	Interestingly enough we did treat my guy for EPM this past fall. I wondered if the peeing under saddle had anything to do with that. It hasn't stopped completely since treatment, but lessened. He rarely actually pees under saddle now, just stretches out. But he will still pee every time I throw the saddle on if he's in his stall. I guess that's better than when we're on deck to run like at one race this year, bugger almost got me the gate with what felt like the worlds longest pee!
