| Was hoping someone would reply to your post. I'm looking at one of the Flex 2 barrel saddles because it is lightweight. I haven't seen any new Circle Y's but I have two old ones, one is 36 yrs old and still a good saddle. If you get either post or send me a PM as to what you think of the quality, leather etc. Thanks. |

I ride a circle y flex2 tree in a shooting saddle ... I have two mares that were hard to fit for a barrel type saddle. I've tried the Martins, a couple different Doube J, and a cutting saddle or two .... I love the cutters, just not for barrels or mounted shooting. These saddle are not junk, just not popular. The tree's are getting more popular and my local saddle place will build to suit on a flex tree. I still have my old basic circle y that I bought off a pal in college. Still love it, but it is too narrow for both of my current horses. |

You asked about two specific brands, I believe the hip hugger is newer, therefore not as many people have bought them.
In general circle y is not the top of the line high end saddles, but you also aren't paying the high end price tag.
I have an old Marlene McRae, and a Lisa Lockhart made by circle y, I like both saddles.
The quality is so, so, I would put in the same class as billy cooks made in Oklahoma. |

Location: In the Hills of Texas | The problem I see with Circle Y saddles is you pay a premium price for a low quality product. $2,000. for one of their saddles is insane. |

Location: Southern Oregon | I am looking at adding a Martha Josey saddle to my collection, but I want an older one. Not ancient, but a 98 to 2004 I think personally after that the leather quality that circle y used went to crap

Location: on my horse | i've had a hip hugger, that seat style has been around for longer than we think. It was a proven something or other with that hip hugger seat and I LOVED that thing. I literally rode it until my butt wore the padding off the seat, I currently have a Martha Josey and love it as well. I've ridden a Cash and liked it too.
Like anything else, saddles are a personal thing, the only thing I'm not a super fan of is my Josey has really forward hung stirrups. |

I wouldn't say they are low quality, mid quality, yes.
Also if you shop around I have had a few circle y saddles that I have bought brand new for specific horses, and I haven't paid over 1500 brand new. |
