Ok, next up for fun times is going to be a Mardi Gras Parade. I'm looking at February 15-17th. There's parades on all of those days around the Eunice, Mamou area in Louisiana. Who's in???? :)

Not sure about Eunice, but we don't go to Mamou, not very family friendly.  Church Point and Opelousas are not too bad and I want to try Carencro this year.  I don't have a clue when they are though, need to get thru this week first, lol.

Uh, what's that

We call them Fat Cakes. There is usually a plastic baby in the cake and many have cream cheese inside. But, there's all kinds.

I have heard of these, but why is there a baby in the cake? Is it a jesus thing?

Oh, there are different things said about the person that nearly chokes on the baby....you'll get luck, you'll have to buy the next Mardi Gras cake, you should go play the lottery....originally, it was supposed to be the baby Jesus and I guess that kind of creeped some people out....idk. I, personally, don't not want to eat baby Jesus.

I was down that way once for Mardi Gras.  Well actually the week the parades started.   It snowed in New Orleans when I was there.  I loved the King Cakes.  Makes me wish we were a little more southern here.

Exactly why Herbie needs a locally made king cake shipped to her!
