afkatrina - 2015-01-21 3:53 PM Seems like I am trying the right things, she is just very aggressive with her eating. I also have 2X4s in the corners which the buckets rest on. Before her, I had no issues with them bolted through the 2X4s
(oh.. about 15 years worth of horses
). She pulls & bangs on them so much, the bolts work loose, fall off
(within a matter of days
), then she lifts the feeder up & the bolts fall out. I really hate to put "welder" type stuff on there since these feeders do crack at some point. I also tried double ended snaps hooked to eye bolts. She would break at least one snap at each feeding
(I tried every different kind I could find
). Currently I have these
http://www.doversaddlery.com/bucket-hanger/p/X1-27125/ bucket hooks through the eye bolts & through the rings on the feeder. So far, she has not broken them. Hubby bends them until they are touching. Over time, they unbend & she is able to pull the bucket off. This is also the horse that has figured out how to let herself & her buddies out of the stalls & gates. I use these to hook the chains for the gates & stall doors -
http://www.tractorsupply.com/en/store/tough-1-bucket-hanger She can open them, so I had to add hooks. I cannot tell you the # of people who want to show me how these are supposed to work. I have to tell them that I know how they work & unfortunately, so does my horse. Would love to hear more ideas or places to get super duty snaps.
