Hi all,
I'm changing boarding stables because I found out the barn I had my horse at was cutting corners on the supplements I had paid for (not giving them at all) and the lesson schedule prevented me from riding. I had paid the barn to add a general supplement and fat sup (house choice did not pick them) in a mix of grain and corn. (rolled oats and kernels). The new place has strategy the maintenance I believe.
Just looking for opinions for a general fat supplement and maintenance for a 10 yr gelding that will be put back to work in march will go on supplements mid Feb.

I've never needed a fat supplement when I feed THE Muscle Mass. It has all the vitamins, minerals, amino acids, prebiotics and even elecrolytes for a great daily supplement. It was used by all 3 of the horses nominiated to 3yr old Horse of the Year (TB racing). Most of my customers are barrel racers. It has special blends that can be added-ulcer prevent, joint & arthritis, hoof, colic, epm, tying up, hair & coat, laminitis, bleeder etc etc. All this for under $1 a day and comes with a guarantee.

There are a lot of good basic supplements out there. I would think you just wanted a basic vitamin/mineral one and some flax seed for fat. Benefat from progressive nutrition is a decent fat supplement. You can also just buy oil at the store, like olive oil, and add it. They only absorb so much of the oil though. If you put him on something like Forco (great supplement!) He will be better able to absorb nutrients from his feed plus any fat supplement you give.

I would do a hair analysis before adding anything. That you will know exactly what he needs. No guesswork.
