I know of several stallions that have offspring with PSSM symptoms that the stallion is 5 panel N/N but of course that is only for type 1. No one knows if the type 2 is genetic, but it is strange to see several offspring by a Neg stallion that is PSSM symptomatic. Could be the mares of course. Nothing about AR Star, but the most they can do is just post that he is 5 panel N/N and go from there. If anyone truly cares enough to breed to him, they will call AQHA and get his 5 panel status and go from there. boon Posts: 2	Please let me state that I in no way, shape, form or fashion own any part of AR Star and I in NO WAY speak for his owners. But I do own several foals by this stallion, have mares infoal and plan on breeding mares back. That being said you have a 27 year old stallion that has shown no signs of PSSM in any way so why would you take a muscle biopsy to prove he's not pssm 2 positive? Type 2 has NOT been shown to be genetic. I'm little behind the curve and didn't see the information out there stating AR Star was positive for pssm 1 until a few days ago. I've had an extensive background with this line of horses and have owned daughters of Shawne bug, Lady Bugs Moon, Jet Deck and Top Moon along with several AR Star foals. In that time I've NEVER had a horse with the symptoms listed for pssm 1 or 2. I would not of stayed with a line of horses for this long if there were any genetic issues I knew of. It shocked me to see people listing names of horses they said were pssm 1 positive and trying to connect point A to point B with no supporting evidence. I was a research scientist for many years and if I had tried to submit a paper were my conclusions are based on hearsay I would of lost my job. With the AQHA listing testing status and as testing increases we will have a big enough pool of horses to maybe come to some conclusions on bloodlines that have the issue. Until then I think it's completely unethical to list a horse as being positive or "suspect" of being positive for any genetic issue unless you have the proof in hand. If you start seeing a "trend" please let the stallion or mare owner know. Most people would not want to continue on genetic issues especially if there's testing out there. Labs are entirely profit orientated so if enough people say hey we may have an issue they will figure out a way to test for that. Thank you

And in general, some people naturally feed a diet that will mask symptoms of PSSM. Which is great. PSSM is just a crappy disease and so hard to track down. Rumers should not be spread about a stallion however as the mares can pass it on as well.
