So i'm lucky enough to be going to Mardi Gras This year.
We will be arriving Saturday and staying till wednesday.
My question is. the forecast says its going to be any where from 70s down to the mid 30s. AND its supposed to rain.
I'm coming from Arizona, and we DON'T want to over pack. we are traveling light.
So basically im wondering are those low temps actually pretty mild? Or are they pretty darn cold? ( seeing as its by water and all?)

I've been to Arizona when it was snowing and didn't find it all that different. When they say it's 30 degrees, it feels about the same to me. The only time you will have any sustained cold is at night during the parades maybe. If there is a wind, it will be colder. Once the sun comes up, everything warms up pretty well. It's unusual to have truly cold days (like up north). If you have a jacket that has a removable liner and some gloves, you should be fine. Maybe one pair of leggings for under your jeans if it happens to get unusually cold. But, it's nothing for the weather to say one thing three days out, only to change drastically from that forecast the day before. It probably will end up raining while you're here, it does that pretty often with the warm gulf air and the cold fronts that make it down here colliding.

Pack everything, our weather can be all seasons in one day. Be safe down there, don't do anything alone :)

I'm 3 hours south west of N.O. When it rains and it's cold it's miserable. That wet cold sinks to your bones, not like a dry cold. The humidity is what gets you.

Just use your common sense and you should be fine. Crime is no worse here than any other big city. Keep your money and ID in your front pocket. I wouldn't carry a purse. Stay in the well populated areas and don't get in a car with someone you just met because they know where a house party is (that just happened not too long ago... yeah, he became a crime victim).

Just a thought on the weather... I don't get the whole wet cold-dry cold thing. It all just feels cold to me. lol Unless of course you're wet and it's cold.

But, if it was me, I'd pack short sleeve or light weight shirts with a good warm jacket. Dress in layers in case it gets hot.

Have fun! If you've never been, it's a sight to see.
