Location: California | I was wondering what people's experiences were with different blood lines. Which ones were the calmest, most level headed, easy to rev up and equally easy to shut down, that were winning barrel horses? I mean horses that could win the 1D in tough tough competition.

Location: Wonderful Wyoming | I've thought about this before and I think there are too many variables to get a good answer. A bad trainer/rider can screw up any horse. Diet can play a big part too. You can find some that seem to handle their cool more than others, but I believe even the hottest horses can stay mellow with the correct training/riding methods. I have ridden a lot of Beduino bred horses that I love. We do a lot of pasture riding on them and so they aren't sitting in a stall getting stir crazy. Is that why they work for me? Also started to ride a FG stud that needs a bit stirred up to get him to turn it all on. He has the speed, but chooses to be mellow. Is that training, because he is a stud or because I am a quiet rider? I have been on cutting bred horses that were the hottest little motors running. But they were mostly stalled and their only riding was 30 minutes in an arena. I am really thinking it is the individual horse. If you want something very mellow and calm. Just look for that particular horse vs that bloodline.
That said. I have always been impressed with my Burrs First Down/First Down Dash bred horses and the Fire Water Flit's that I have seen. They have a really great work ethic from the start, willing dispostion to learn and fast enough to get it done.

My Jesses Double Dee mare is like that when she's not being snorty at something. I'm thinking she will mature out of the snortiness, because her default mode is calmly interested and a little lazy. |

Location: Benton City, WA | My Dr Nick Bar is that way. He can get pretty up at a barrel race (and needs to) but is normally the laziest horse. He is Easy Jet on the bottom side. He has a wonderful mind. I literally wish I had 10 more like him. |

Easy jet is at the top for quiet, trainable horses. The problem is that having Easy Jet on the papers is almost impossible to find these days. That is why I chose to breed to Guys Easy Jet. I will say that Streakin Six and Mr Jess Perry are an extension of the Easy Jet line along wit h Streakin Ajolla. |

Have to agree with the Easy Jet, though they're harder to find.
Wonder Otoe horses have excellent minds and usually finish out as very quiet horses, as well as the Bully Bullions.

My FWF gelding out of a Shawnee Bug mare was what I've always called an Old Soul. I retired him sound and he taught my sister's 65 year old husband how to ride. It took 6 months before he would get out of a trot with him. He's worth his weight in gold and he's a big boy! |

Location: North Dakota | I think it's sooo dependent on the individual and how they're treated. I have a Dash for Cash grandson that is just quiet as can be. I don't know how fast he is yet, as I've never pushed him even close. He's a very sensitive horse though, he requires a light touch and a quiet rider and doesn't like to be punished. I can see where if he would have been treated differently as a young horse, he could have been turned into a spaz by poor handling/riding. Luckily he was not and is just awesome! |

I second Diane's post, whom I've inquired questions about my packin sixes filly to. The packin sixes horse I've seen (I know 3 all related to mine) are by far the QUIETEST horses I've ever seen.
My mare is a dead head, she is also very lazy (which I can't stand) BUT, haul here anywhere and she doesn't care about a thing in the world, point her at that gate and she starts hopping all the way in and all of a sudden a ball of fire appears. Finish your run and she drops her head and becomes lazy again.
My two eyed jack horse was pretty nervous and hyped up, always tons of forward motion, same which my doc bar mare.
My DFC horses were very laid back but not as much as packin sixes.
My easy jet/jet deck horses were about the same as the DFC. But a little more nervous and free runners

Interesting to know, about the Mr. Jess Perry lines... I have a son of Pretty Boy Perry, out of a Runaway Winner/By Yawl mare..(in my avatar)he's 8 this year, and had 9 starts with a 85 SI..
He is a gentle giant , a old soul.....
I have had him 2 years and he has been a bit slow maturing, but as a trail horse, a barrel horse, he takes great care of me..(at my age that's a good thing!).... and can be scary fast explosive in speed , or bob along at home in a western pleasure type shuffle...on a loose rein....and he is so sweet to my special needs son! :)
