I am not sure of the exact "recipe" per say. But we had a feed mill near the house mix up some feed for us with oats, alfalfa pellets, rice bran, and a little bit of corn oil to add a little fat. It runs us around $12.75 a bag, and our horses look wonderful on it! We feed it to our clients horses also and all have seemed to maintain their weight well on it. That is saying a lot when you go to riding a horse for 30,60, or 90 days that hasn't ever been ridden before.
A lot of our clients have started buying it from the feed mill also. I was just sick of buying a bag of oats, rice bran, and alfalfa pellets and mixing everything. So I sat down with the gentleman at the feed mill and we came up with a good ratio.
I also add Forco to some of our horses feed and it really makes them bloom!

Yes, the next time I go to pick up feed I will have them write down everything and share it with you. I believe we will be going to pick up more here in the next week or so.

That sounds like a good mix. I do Renew Gold and alfalfa pellets.

2 parts oats
1 part alfalfa pellets
2/3 part calf manna

When I'm mixing, I use a scoop, and guess at the 2/3

I do oats, renew gold, a good mineral/vitamin supplement (Dynamite), CoMega Supreme (added fat), THE, beet pulp, and free choice peanut hay and grass.

I do 1 bag of rolled oats + 1 bag of steamed barley + 1/2 bag cracked corn. My horses look and feel good. They were all getting way to fat on everything else I fed. I have free choice minerals out for them as well.

I would suggest getting your hay tested to then see what nutrients you will need to supplement in your mixture.....customizing to me means creating a balance in the horses diet...what are your objections with feeding it? weight gain, performance maintenance, compensating for low quality hay etc....that makes a difference on your mixture contents to..

Gosh I wish we were lucky enough to have a feed mill to mix it for that price. I wanted the same thing but with dicalium phosphate added and coconut oil (with me bringing the last two to add when he mixes it) and the quote was $18 a bag. I just buy them separate and mix.

I used to feed cob and free choice minerals I bought steam rolled oats flaked corn barley and abc minerals it was outrageous, the only thing you can get around here is nutrena and I just don't think my horses do well on it one craps like a cow, I've tried omolene and it makes another one really hot, omolene 200 has always been one I've used it and cob. I would like to find a mix with low corn low mollasses 12 percent balanced minerals maybe higher in fat.i am no nutritionalist lol

I get it through our team ropings. He ropes locally and is a sponsor. I tried to goggle it and you have to do Stewart Equine Minerals. He has a FB page.... i dont have FB.... and you can contact him on there. One bag last a horse a year. I have several on it so I just put a couple bags at a time and let them eat it as they please.

I am working on a mixed pellet that will be very good and similar to the above discussed. Hopefully details will be coming sooner than later.

contact the feed mill nutritionist and he can usually come up with a ration that you are wanting.

that way working with the mill you are getting it from it will be more balanced.

tell him your wants and needs like low protein for horses, high fat,  turned out on pasture, not etc.
