| I am finally going to get my horse barn this spring I have been looking and looking for a great plan or something that would be close to what I am looking for with great function.. The barn is going to be 30 x 40 or 34x 40. (4) 10x12 stalls dog kennel area -sheep area 4-h animals, tack room and small feed room. Hay storage on the bottom I plan on having runs off my stalls. I would love to see some barns |

Location: Texas | Things I like about my barn: Access to the tack room from inside or outside the barn. Storage/Shelving in the tack room. Gates that divide the stall and the run. Having my wash rack outside The lighting inside and outside of the barn Plenty of outlets, above the stalls, inside and outside Having multiple water spigots Concrete stalls |

Location: Alberta, Canada | Our barn is 40x30.
We have
enclosed 10x14 tackroom - lots of shelving, own outlet and lights
4 - 10x14 stalls
open 10x14 work space (hubby's corner ;))
automatic waterer in two stalls
water spigot
several outlets and lights inside and outside.
12' wide alleyway.
I really wanted an open, less intimidating layout. Our stalls are very open, no bars and mesh gates instead of wooden doors.
Ours is 12' tall at the outside walls with a 14' peak so it's very tall and inviting. If we were to do it again there's not a ton I would change. I waited a long time for my barn and it is literally my santuary -- until my indoor goes up this fall lol.
I'll get some pictures posted.

| I love my barn, it has an apartment in it though. But it has six 12x12 stalls and two wash racks with hot and cold water. I wish it had a separate feed and tack room though. Too much tack LOL
Also it has spring loaded water hoses above each stall. I will never be without those again!! |

Can you explain what this is and what it entails. I'm fixing to run water into the barn and have been debating on how and where to do it. |

The hoses are on a spring loaded on/off switch. Just hold the cord down and the water runs out, let go and it turns off. Not sure if you can see the water set up here.

| If you are planning on using bulk shavings, plan a space to store them inside, with room to unload truck/trailer. Another thing we love, is outlets near stalls to plug fans into. Rubbing mats in stalls is a must, we also have rubber mats in aisle instead of concrete. |

That really is a good idea, if you have the extra money and space. I wouldn't mind having one ;) |

I told her we needed to at least have a port a potty... But then we got a little grossed out when we realized we were the only ones who would have to change it... Ha! Guess we though tour invisible well paid stable hands would do it |

| My barn is not fancy but I love it. My last barn was very nice- priefert stalls, very pretty, etc. but I did not have near enough storage. For this barn my must have was space and storage. I have 4 big 15 x15 stalls that each open to 50 x 35 pens. I have a 10 x 15 feed room, 10 x 15 hay room and across from that is a 20 x 15 storage/tack room. I love all the space I have for all the stuff you aquire over the years. |

Location: Slipping down the slope of old age. Boo hoo. | Be sure to have dirt hauled in to build up the foundation area of your barn. You want to make sure you get it "high and dry" and so water drains away.... also install gutters. Install roll-up doors for your big doors. For doors leading outside from your stalls, install sliders.
Install lots of outside spotlight type lights.

Totally a must have! It's fast, easy to fill water buckets or spray down a stall and I don't have to worry about a hose in the isle way all the time! |

Location: Nowhere Special | I really like having ceiling fans and a fly spray system.. The runs off the stalls are must have for me from now on. I like having the garage door on the outside of the feed room.. Prepare your stall floors and then mat them, feed hay outside and you won't hardly have to spend anything on shavings.. the office was a waste of space for me. You should be able to see pics of the barn, from the album when I rented my place.. https://www.facebook.com/sara.puskarich/media_set?set=a.834004413284886.1073741829.100000260044809&type=3 |
