Are there any breeding experts or professional that consult? I'm breeding for the first time and feel like the stud owners are going to be bias to their stallions
(I'm not bashing anyone as I haven't talked to any
). For me its a lot of money and while I want to keep and run the foal, there is always a chance I may need to sell, so I need a stallion who is marketable so I don't completely loosing what I put into it. Who does one talk to get some solid advice?

God is the only one I know that doesn't have some sort of bias! lol. I'm sure there are consultants out there but I doubt they are worth the cost, and would bet they are biased as well. In all honesty here or fb...talking with people that are in the business. They will usually be more than happy to tell you what works for them. That doesn't always mean it will work for you or your mare, but it might give you a place to start.

I would look at your mare's bloodlines and look at horses that are running with a similar dam side. See who the sires of those are. I would personally try to breed to a stallion who has foals winning and selling well. That way, if you were to ever sell, you would have a marketable foal. You can always post your mare's pedigree here and ask who you think she would cross well with. Also take into consideration any flaws on your mare that you would like to improve
(if anything
). Look for a stallion that may have the things your mare is lacking in, in hopes of getting a foal with the best of both genes.

Read and more reading. Go by the mare's bloodlines and what you like in a stallions. I would not hire anyone to do that for me.
Good luck, it is always a gamble.

We breed about 4 mares a year. We don't own a stallion so I usually choose a different stallion for each mare. I do a ton of research on bloodlines and look at what's winning and how they are bred. There is a facebook page called Barrel Racing Breeders-Magic Cross. It's pretty helpful with different crosses. I think just doing your own research will be the best bang for your buck. I love the planning of the babies, but it is a gamble even with the best laid plans. I wish you the best!

Just post your mares info here and we will give you suggestions who we think would be a nice ross. At least that will start your list for you to start narrowing down your search. I have found the problem with the face book page barrel horse breeders magic crosses you will get every stallion owner pimping their own horse.
