Location: Texas | I have a question... If you were looking at a horse to buy, and you liked it, then to find out it was by a Quarter Horse stud but out of an App mare would you still buy it??? Just wondering on the resale of such horses. I know some people are anti paint and app so just curious :) |

Location: Somewhere around here | To me it depends on the bloodlines. If the mare had good racing bloodlines or good Appy work horse sires then I would be fine with it. If the horse that I was looking at and it was a mare I'd more likely not breed her in the future though, just because in my area the resale value is pretty low. |

Location: Texas | Thanks for the input! I am looking at buying a 2 year old off the track, so she is all racing bred. Just wondering if I decided to buy her then possibly sell her in the future how hard she would be to sell. |

| If it were a registered app with mostly QH bloodlines, yes I would still buy it. If it were appy bred, I would run the other way LOL |

| Nope wouldn't buy, it doesn't fit into my program.
If you do a search this has been discussed at length before a few times.
Unless the horse turns out to be a superstar, it will be harder to sell for a descent price |

| People are always worried about resale...VERY FEW people make money on the resale. If you are forced to get rid of a horse in a hurry you are almost guaranteed to loose money. My advise: Try the horse, if you like it then buy they horse and make it the best **** horse anybody has ever seen, because what the horse can do is going to have more of an effect on resale than breed registry.

Location: Texas | Well yes that is the plan :) I would be buying at as a barrel prospect to later sell. But like the above poster, there are people who simply wouldn't want a paint or appy no matter how good the horse is. I guess I just don't understand, I was raised for one, pretty is as pretty does, but also that it doesn't really matter as long as the horse goes and does the job I want them to do and does it well. |

For that reason that I am known to have App barrel horses, it is great to suddenly have all the interest in them from non App people. I think Fallon Taylor having one in training that she plans on running this year has something to do with it. I've been getting calls from all over the Nation and cant find enough for all the calls I'm getting. |

That is awesome! I am glad to hear it. I have always loved apps. My dad had several rope horses that were apps. I have never had one as a barrel horse, but found a couple I really like at the race barns. :) |

Location: Middle Tennessee | I bought a two year old App registered colt a little while ago. He turns 3 in July and is one of the easiest starting colts I've ever ridden. He's solid bay, no spots. He is Bully Bullion, Dash for Cash, and Tiny Charger bred. He's an own grandson of Man with the Power. I'm excited about him. Needless to say, I don't mind if one's an App if I like the breeding and see heart and potential. |

Due to the popularity of Ranch Horse classes -- and the fact the ApHC has added these classes (beginning this year), there is a demand for nice, pretty, kind-minded, athletic horses for these events. There is a huge shortage. Anything with cow/run that has the mane, tail and ability is selling, selling, selling.... I think demand will continue to rise and prices for these types of horses that are well broke will rise. Also, more breed shows are hosting "color" events for Appaloosas, Paints... Palominos with nice added money - and some shows are opening up classes to all the stock breeds (with nice added money) -- so far I've seen Hunt Seat and Western Pleasure events opened up to all stock breeds. The QH Congress has these classes this year..... with the trends toward bling and color for apparel and tack in the rodeo arena and show pen -- it makes sense that the next "bling" demand will be horses with color..... |

| This is really the wrong forum to be asking about Appaloosas. The people here are mostly AQHA people, you need to ask on the Appaloosas forum. About your question if there is resale value, yes there is but you need to go to the right place to ask. I raise both Quarter Horses and Appaloosas and I have no problem selling either one of them. |

Sorry but how on earth is this the wrong place to ask? I plan on training this filly on the barrels so was asking how barrel racers would look at such a horse that was for sale. |
