Money Eating Baggage Owner Posts: 9586 Location: Phoenix	What do you guys do for horses that are developing sores on their hocks from rolling? Mine is getting them on the side of his hocks and I'm putting an ointment on it but I'm wondering if I should invest in some hock wraps or something and put those on when I know he'll be rolling? (After bath, longer stall time). At this point it's an open wound but it's sealed over by his skin, it just looks so painful and usually it's never gotten this bad.

Regular Posts: 76	I scrub mine with betadine scrub, let it dry, and apply corona ointment to them helps a lot. Be careful though stand to the side before you just get in there and start scrubbing sometimes they are pretty sore. After you do this a few times they get a lot better.

U could just put them on and turn him out....i use mine when i stall or pen at a differnet place.....just as insurance.....but since yr ground is so hard id just start using them....M

All of mine get hock sores when there is not enough sawdust in the stall and they lay down to sleep.. Add more sawdust and they are gone.. Never had one get them from rolling although they will knock the scabs off that way

Money Eating Baggage Owner Posts: 9586 Location: Phoenix	It's definitely possible. The barn is awaiting a shavings delivery but his stall is still pretty good. I might just buy those hock boots just to have them. He does roll quite often and I never see him lay down.
