I'm just going to delete this post. I'm so done with the overly dramatic responses that come from more then a handful of posters on this site. I don't post often but have been a member since this board started and I have watched it turn into something ugly because of a handful of armchair barrel racers that never have anything nice to say, can't give any solid advice and just use this board an an outlet for their nasty attitude and as a chance to spew their own missery at will. Those of you who CONSTANTLY make nasty, rude, comments and jump to conculisions really should be ashamed of yourself. If you are that unhappy in life, change it! There are some with a lot of experince and great advice that are willing to share it and help people which is what this board is for its to bad you have to wade through nasty nut jobs to get to any real information. All of us have to deal with nasty know it all, misery loves company people in our real life, I will not deal with it from a bulletin board that was orginally designed for helpful information.

Now you know why they got rid of him!
For your own safety get rid of him immediately before you get caught in the middle of a kicking contest or get ran over and trampled.

His behavior tells me he has been on the bottom of the pecking order since they are the ones that turn vicious when around new horses. I would also guess he has pasture bred a couple of mares too.

He is what you call 'rank' and he is going to catch you sleeping and hurt you very badly!! Or he is going to get you sued for bringing a dangerous animal to a horse event and getting others or their horses hurt and property damage since he also has no stall manners!!

By your story line you do not have the experience nor the time necessary to change his brain reactions and face it .. he is never going to be a trusted member of your barn .. so why put yourself and others at risk??

Right now you are his mare and he has you dominated as his property!!

Your comments are always so extreme, it's pretty comical! I don't think the OP needs to get rid of the horse immediately but he does need to be reined back a little. You are going to have to "punish" him to say. The aggression will only get worse not better.

Is he for sure gelded? i noticed you said he is a rescue horse is why i am asking. a friend of ours baught one they thought was gelded and he too was really aggressive but to people too. They took it to the vet and found he was intact and both testicles were sucked up. He calmed down alot after they got him cut.

With the feed aggression I'm guessing that has come from a time when he wasn't getting as much food as he needed. I would try and keep hay infront of him 24/7 so he knows he doesn't have to worry about going hungry. I know with mine on a round bale the pecking order doesn't seem to be as big of an issue as it used to be.
Next time you haul him I would find a calming agent that works on him. In the past I have used "Rescue Remedy" you can find this in a health food store. It's for people and is used for anxiety...I have had the best results with this for my mare. I would put a dropper full on a horse treat or in grain and let her eat it. If she needed more I would give more. Keep him on this until he starts getting better and then slowly wean him off. I no longer have to use this for my mare anymore.

I wouldnt cut him any slack anymore. this has got to stop with the being aggressive over You.. you need to be the alpha now and put a chain on him and get control. its cute and it is sad from his past but you need to put a stop to it. firmly and consistent.or someone will end up hurt.
how old is horse and age he was gelded?

It doesn't sound like he views you as the "leader" on the ground if he's trying to pull you into his chest and "protect" you, regardless of how polite he is about it or how good he is under saddle. Personally, I would make him WORK every time he tries to do it - use a long lead, send him to the end of the rope and start trotting circles. Control the situation - have some friends bring horses over and slowly increase the amount of horses around him. He needs to learn that he can trust you to be the alpha "horse". I also agree with whoever said to keep a round bale out 24/7. He probably is nervous that feed is going to disappear if he doesn't get it now-now-now, and that will just take time to get over.

I read your original post but didn't have time to respond this morning.

All in all, I think you've gotten some pretty good advice on this thread.  Too bad that you are letting one snarky/mean post ruin what others have tried to tell you or have offered to share with you and ask questions about your situation on.  I don't know if this is a really touchy subject for you or if you are just having a bad day but I think your response (as written above) is pretty dramatic compared to most of the advice you've received.
