| Has anyone tried them? Think they're a neat idea and I'm considering trying one but would like to get opinions on them first. I plan on buying a 5 Star but opinions on other brands of the self contouring pads are welcome as well! Likes or dislikes? |

| Any wool pad will conform to the horses body.
5 star and the Ed wright pads are felted by the same company in Canada
I have one of the old wells 5 star and it does conform to the body, when you pull the pad off after riding, it will still maintain the shape for a period of time.
I haven't used the new 5 stars so cannot speak on that
I have switched to csi pads, and have noticed after riding and I pull the pad off, it also maintains the shape of the horses back.
I looked at the self contouring pad they have, now instead of the 5 star being sewn together at the spine, it looks like it is one entire piece.
My guess why they are now marketing this is from what I have heard from 5 star users is they have to readjust the pad as it pushes down on the wither.
I know my wells 5 star, I had to ensure I placed my pad and saddle properly to prevent wither pressure, after that it never slid. Also the style of pad I have was custom, and is no longer made, I tried about 5 years after my initial purchase, and received a pad I couldn't sell fast enough, it was not the same pad.
The csi pads, are contoured at the wither so there is no pressure on the withers, there is no adjusting, or readjusting, I have a lot of wither clearance.
Just to add I don't sell the csi, I just use them

| I love my 5 star. Trying like crazy to keep it clean from the shedding wooly mammoth this spring. Just got it this december as a gift from my younger brother. Not to jack the thread, what do ya'll use under it as a liner?? I've heard some ppl do that. Or does that effect the way it shapes to your horse? |

Is this your pad, if so you will love the 5 stars. This one looks like a 1 inch. The only thing about this pad that your showing is its a bit to long for this horse. |

| No, those are photos of the pad on 5-stars site. I know 5-star is a great brand but I'm looking for opinions on this particular pad. |

| My concerns would be the spinal area pinching or creating excess pressure on one spot as on the horse picture it narrows quite a bit without a saddle, not sure if the saddle would make it worse or better.
Also the pressure on the wither, it looks like the pad makes direct contact with the wither, also thinking it may put more pressure on the wither when the saddle is on and cinched up causing wither pain. |

All my 5 Stars have the spine not the cut outs, not being a smarty pants here just asking why a cut out spine? |

Those were my concerns too however RockyRoad told me they recommend them for higher withered horses to help support the spine more. Think I might stick to the regular 5 star pads for now. lol |

| Pinching along the spine concerned me too. I just messaged 5 star for some more info and/ or testimonials on the self contouring pad as my horse is mutton withered and the contoured pads are a bit too much. I will share when they get back to me. |

| I have 2 of the regular 5 star pads and they've both contoured to fit like a dream. They are already a bit contoured out of the box, but my horse has/had before he muscled up pretty high withers and you can see even when his pad is just hanging on the rack, it's shaped like his back.
I tent it into my gullet when I put my saddle on, it settles some down towards his wither, but I've never had it put pressure on them. Won't ride in anything else. |
