Its been a long time since I've logged into the forum, but remember how helpful it was when it comes to supplements and joint health advice. I have an aged mare who I plan to commit to running this year and am curious what your favorite go-to maintenance products are? She hasnt had injections, but has been on adequan in the past. Shes currently on Total Equine, no supplements. In the past I've used, tried, and wasted tons of money trying to find a supplement that worked. Right now, shes in awesome shape and feeling good, but hasnt run or seen a barrel pattern in about 6 months, and before then it had been almost a year due to my own pregnancy. So, while she is finished, she is coming into this season pretty fresh. I want to make sure that she is getting what she needs to continue to feel her best and run as good as she possibly can.

Any helpful advice would be fantastic. Any feed through supplements that have been beneficial to your horse? And all around supplements that kept your horse mentally focused?

Thank you for the help!

I have my old, OLD arthritic mares on Platinum Performance CJ and they are doing awesome on it. I could see a marked difference after being on it a few weeks. My dun mare, she's 25 and my palamino mare that's 31 are even both all dappled out on it and moving soooooo much better.

I have a pony that we assumed was very close to 30, but after doing some numbers with the neighbor that gave him to us, it turns out he is closer to 35+ as his daughter is now 30 and the pony was 5+ when they got him. Anyways, this old dude is still packing my 2yr old son around and they won Reserve year end for the lead line at a Gymkhana series last yr. He is on THE Muscle Mass with joint & arhtritis and senior blends and also FlamOxide. Anyone that saw him would think he was closer to 20. I swear by THE products. My older son is riding a 22 yr old gelding that was used a lot in his day. He's on the same Muscle Mass and GastroPLUS to help with his ulcers. He's one that frets a lot.

Fabulous! I'll look at THE products as well. She can be a fractious mare and having something that would address potential ulcers or tummy issues would be an awesome addition. Thank you so much!

I think I have seen the most difference using Actiflex4000.   Also seems to pep them up some, not sure if that's because it gives them more energy or just because they feel so much better on it....

I can't say enough good things about Platinum CJ. We have a 36 year old on it and nobody believes he's that old because of how he looks and acts--- bucks, kicks, and carries on like he's a colt. I attribute a lot of that to the CJ

She isnt as old as the horses mentioned above. I just consider her aged, because she isnt of futurity age and has outgrown the silly stage. Shes 14, has run barrels for about a year and a half, but still has a tendency to get ouchy after running hard. She felt good on adequan, just exploring other options.

Thank you all so much for the input! Great advice!

Our 19 year old mare is on THE muscle mass with arthritic blend, ulcer prevent and coat and hoof. She has shown a considerable improvement on it. She was tender on her front after riding. We don't notice it anymore.

ETA: She ran her first race with my 5 year old niece yesterday and did fantastic. No soreness today.

My 18 year old mare is also on THE. She is on the moody mare, ulcer, and focus mix. Here is a video of her last weekend. She has been on THE for about 6 weeks now. This is her first run back all winter.

I put our 20 year old on Tight Joint plus about 6 weeks ago. and last night there was not one sign of any offness in his hind end which are WAY due for hocks to be done. In fact I have an appointment this weekend to have them done and he had me second guessing myself on actually injecting this season. I can not say for sure its the supplement but last year on injections and Actiflex4000 he was only about 95% on his bad leg BUT he was sore up front most of the previous winter due to a bad quarter crack. This winter his front end was good so it could just be that he didn't have the pressure on the hindend that he did the winter before. But I give it an A as of now.
