OT- Jelly Bean Sugar Test

Ever had to take the Glucose test while pregnant? Well... my Midwife doesn't want me to do it since I am Hyperglycemic and already sensitive to sugar. I also don't believe that much sugar is healthy for any baby. Doctors tell you to eat as healthy as possible and then have you drink a sugary drink that has DAYS worth of sugar in it? I don't understand that....
Instead my midwife wanted me to write down my sugar readings for her for a week so I wouldn't have to overload my body with sugar... Well. I forgot too. So now, the state is asking for numbers from her by a certain date and we are out of time.
She wants me to do a sugar test with Jelly Beans instead. Same concept as the glucose drink just with jelly beans.
Pretty excited that I get to eat candy especially since I haven't had any in YEARS.
But it makes me nervous to eat a whole cup of jelly beans when I know that I'll crash from the sugar and feel horrible for a few days afterward... The closest thing I have to sugar during the day is fruit.
My Midwife said the state mandates her to do a sugar test on every patient regardless. And that while she doesn't recommend it because it isn't healthy for baby or me, she feels like eating jelly beans is better than swallowing the glucose drink.
(her first choice was for me to write down my sugar readings so we could take the average and turn that in. But I messed that up...
)
She said the jelly beans have less sugar than the drink at a doctors office but give the same effect given my sugar condition I had before baby.
I guess I just don't understand why the State would mandate her to give me a test she clearly is scared for me to take and clearly doesn't agree with? She said they could suspend her liscense if she doesn't turn in the true test results.
(I asked if we could skip it and make up some numbers LOL.
)
I understand giving the test to normal women to check for getational diabetes, but to mandate it to women who have previous sugar conditions to purposely make them crash/sick/pass out/ etc just to write down numbers for the State absolutely blows my mind. I don't eat that much sugar regardless. So why would it matter what my numebrs are? I'm not looking forward to it... I'm hyperglycemic for crying out loud! The state should know I'm sensitive to sugar without testing me for it!! SO doesn't want me to take it because he's been around when I've passed out from sugar crashes before
(before baby
) and it scared him. But he also doen't want to get my Midwife in trouble... I don't like that I have no choice...
Not cool State of Texas...Not. Cool.

You can refuse the test. If you're already eating to manage your blood sugar issue, you and baby should be fine. I wouldn't put myself through that with your condition. My son did a 5 hour GTT to diagnose his hypoglycemia and it was horrible. Absolutely horrible.

Ps my son once crashed so bad he had a seizure and stopped breathing. No way would I risk that sort of thing with you being pregnant.
