What does it usually run to do the initial series of shots for both legend and adequan for a horse that's just starting to show some small changes?

I just got a 10 dose vial of adequan from valley vet
for 39.99 a shot! I'm doing the 7 injection series dosage right now and the rest I will give him a few day out of a big show. I called around a some clinics wanted 60-100 a shot! I was already spending 35.00 a month plus on feed thrus so for a few more bucks I have the good stuff! I know valley vet sells legend too.

Yes you need prescriptions from valley vet. I have used ICHON and HYTRYL as substitutes for Adequan and Legend and you can get those from www.allivet.com without a prescription. Valleyvet carries those as well but need script. Weird why one would need one and the other doesn't.

I had some Ichon last fall and I think it ran around $25 a shot? I can't remember the exacts of it... I believe it was one shot every four days for so many days and then once a month.  I didn't finish the series because my gelding got laid off and I figured it was a waste of money if he was going to be on stall rest.

I just bought six vials of NexHA a couple of months ago and they were $65/vial.  As per my vet you're supposed to do three shots one week apart and then once a month.

Legend is not a once a month or initial series shot it lasts a maximum of i think of 48-72 hours ( i can't remember). It has no long term effects. We use it five hours out before a big run.

Cheapest ways:

Legend - NexHA the generic heartland online sales the 4-pk at $59 a shot
Off label use of Hytryl box of 5 for $$39 a shot

Hytryl is just as affective and gives the same results before a big run or 3 day weekend.

Adequan- Ichon is on sale on allivet $113 for the 5 pack
Adequan is on allivet for $299 for the 7 shot series

I'm not as big a fan of Ichon I thought our horses declined in performance and just didn't move as well. We ordered once and felt it a waste of money. So went back to adequan and we are starting the 7 shot series every 2 months. After speaking with a rep and Dr. White we are doing the 7 shot series protocol every 6 months because thats actually how it was designed to work.

Once a month for either of these is a thing of the past. Its not how either were meant to work if you talk to representatives of the company.

Agreed legend isn't long acting, so once a month is pointless. And it costs soo much. I don't feel it economical.

Adequan is a better value than Legend.

If i feel a horse could use an nsaid before or after running, I will use equioxx or bute, as long as it is permitted by the rules of the race. Legend is not in my budget right now.

I I also picked Pentosan over all of the above products. Works well for me.

I wanna add something about legend. Legend can quicken one up about .3 tenths and that is no joke. It can be the difference in a show winning run and placing. It pays for itself, especially for a good ol feller that you wanna make feel good. I know some rodeo pros and futurity ppl that their horses get it every time through the gate. I can't afford to do that and keep the roads hot unless I've got one thats paying for themselves and if they are then by golly they will have their legend.

For those that are giving the Legend, are you giving it IM or IV? Vet has said he had recommended IV.

Interesting on the side effect of making them feel better. We're not quite at that level yet.

Legend is IV only you cannot give it IM.

It may be given orally and still works less effectively but it will absolutely tear up their stomach.
