I broke my humerus into three little happy chunks the end of March. My question to you all, is how long did it take to get back to racing? I didn't have surgery and wasn't put into a cast, but the ortho I seen put me into a stabilizing brace to allow traction and compression to do its job. I've seen the x-rays and things are looking great, but since my arm was immobile for 5 weeks (started physical therapy last week) I've lost a lot of flexion in my elbow and strength in my arm. It's coming back faster than what I thought, but would like to get back to running again. Patience does not run rampant with me. ;)

I have no idea about recovering.  So sorry about your injury.  Hopefully you heal quickly.  I would say don't push it.  Take as much time as necessary to heal properly.

I would say 3 months from time of injury is about the time it takes for the bone to completely heal.

It also depends on NSAID usage too, studies have shown, NSAIDs given during the first day can delay healing up to three weeks (this could be a little off as I am going by memory) also this info is 5 years old.

I just had a surgical fusion on my neck and the neurosurgeon told me absolutely no NSAIDS for min of 3 months.

NSAIDS include alieve, Motrin, Ibuprofen, these are the only ones I can think of off the top of my head

It was a FULL YEAR before my surgeon would release me to ride. I have a plate and 13 screws, spent 3 days in the hospital and went to PT for 2 weeks - I would STRONGLY recommend PT if you can get it.

I had a exterinal pin/rod from my elbow to shoulder, 2 days in hospital. They inserted rod in my shoulder. Was 3 months before the bone had regrown enought to say healed, was probably a half and inch gap with the rod. When i went to pt i could not move my shoulder very much, my elbow and my wrist where locked up, she told me she did not know how much movement i would get back. But lucky, they had a brand new pt opened up and they where not busy and spent extra time on me. That was in 1998, and they dont do same kind of operation they do an internal pin, a lot easier on you.

I broke my shoulder and did not even think of riding until the doctor said that I could. It is different with each person.
