When Ariat first came out with their boots they were actually lace ups. They were butt ugly but they were so comfortable. I never had problems with my boots catching the fenders until they started the real short tops and it is very aggravating.

Nevertooold - 2015-05-29 8:34 PM The new lower topped boots weren't made for riding...they were made for two stepping and Ariat is now owned by the same people that own the Gap and Old Navy so the quality has left the building. Sad...I loved their boots when the original owners had it and IMO..they have become junk.
Amen ist not the same
Boots for dancing have leather soles so you can slide. The short top boots that I have come with a thick rubber sole.

Well just shoot me...I should have said they are now more of a fashion statement then a riding boot. I have never worn real high top boots but I never had problems with catching my fenders until they came out with the shorter tops. The new low top Ariats are paper thin and don't last. I can remember when it was hard to wear a pair of boots out. Now your lucky if you get a year out of them..LOL

I have some of the original Twisted X boots that you can't wear out and they have now become junk. Very disappointing as I really loved their boots. Made in China equals Junk!

Everyone around here rides in the short boots. I have big calves from riding horses and have to cut the tops to get them to go over my calves. I ride in those Ariat lace up things that look like hiking boots in the summer because they are cooler.

There have been a few girls that have somehow come off their horse. The boot got stuck or was banded in and their foot just came out of the boot. That probably would not happen with a taller boot. Those short boots are pretty popular around here.

Funny boot story ------- I went to a genealogy conference in Birmingham AL. One of the presenters was from Chicago. She was telling me that there were dancehalls in Chicago where everyone went to just dance. I don't think they even sold alcohol there. She told me about the boots she danced in and all I could think about was walking through the snow to get there. She said she NEVER wore them outside. She suggested that we find a place to go dancing. I don't think she could have stood the culture shock going to a local honkytonk. Needless to say, I told her we better skip that and concentrate on genes!ogy.
