Location: Oklahoma | I have never entertained the idea of getting a horse ready for four year old futurities before. They are usually 5 or 6 before I ever get around to getting them ready to take to town. I do have one now that I think has the ability and mind to be ready. I am wondering what other futurity hopefuls are up to now. Where in their training, at what speed they are at, etc. If mine is loping a pretty close to perfect pattern and probably ready for more speed, is she on target or are most already cruising through with 3/4 or more speed? Just wondering? |

Location: Ft Worth TX | Well with all the rain i have given up on any hope of spring futurities. Heres mine last week with my husband. I think theres a lot of potential just don't think she will be ready come spring. They SHOULD be exhibitioning at around 3/4 speed imo and making runs by july- august...

| I am good friends with one of the top futurity trainers in the nation. I asked her same question and she said if you want to be competitive at the national level in futurities that your colt should be clocking in the 1D by July 1st if you plan to start entering them in December and following year. So, for a 2016 colt, they need to be clocking 1D regularly in about a month from now. |

Location: NE Texas | I have a 4 YO Corona Cartel grand daughter that is futurity eligible and being offered for sale. She is currently with Gunnar Enlow. She's clocking about a second off the horse winning the barrel race right now. I think if this weather clears up and he's able to haul her a bit more that she'll easily step that up to top of the 2D if not a little more fairly quickly.

| All of the rain has put us a little behind but my 3 year old is working so nicely the exh. barrels are never in the same places as the barrel race but she is working at a high lope and turning fantastic. The faster you ask her to go the better she rates and turns. My trainer likes to give them a rest when they get to a certain point and she told m that the horse was going to have to stay at her house during her break. Trainer is looking at futurities in January to start. |

Well, you have a week to squeeze 6 months of training into. It is SUPPOSED to be sunny all week. Good luck |

Right! I've already accepted defeat. If by some miracle it happens then well I just pulled off a hat trick! I will just have to try again sometime in the future! |

Location: Oklahoma | Well, we are to get 6 more inches of rain this week! Uggg... For the first time, maybe ever, I have one I feel may be futurity material. She is not really barrel bred but man does she have some talent. Maybe some of the later Spring/Summer futuries will work out.

Location: Gainesville, TX | I have a 2017 futurity hopeful. She's at the trainer now to be patterned, 90 days. She goes back next spring to add speed and a bit of hauling, also 90 days. I'll continue to haul and exhibition when she backs home late next summer. So all in all I'm giving her a good two years to get comfortable with everything before she ever sees a competition run. She'll probably get a bit of rest this winter when the weather gets yucky before really gearing up to go next December. I'm very excited. |

I just watched the video and so wish I had more pennies saved up. Thank you Utahcanchaser and MS2011. We decided to go ahead and enter her last week based on most of the futurity trainers already having their line up ready for next year, so she's no longer a futurity hopeful, but in her first run outside and her first time entered she won the 3D and a pretty tough jackpot in OK with Jordan Robinson. She ran a little green, but handled everything great. This mare will easily make a 1D/2D horse and I would nearly guarantee that with as good minded as she's been to start, she'll make a rodeo horse. If I hadn't had to put a new AC system in my house, there's no way i'd sell her, but such is life. http://barrelhorseworld.com/horsedetail.asp?ID=290998
