I have a loom and I've practiced with some pretty easy patterns. How do I get started making my own patterns? I've looked online and see such awesome designs from these companies that make beaded tack and belts and I am at a total loss as how you even begin creating those? I've seen some done with skulls & pistols on them and it just blows my mind that someone created that out of beads! And I've even seen ones that have wording and brands done. Do you use a software program to make those designs or do you hand draw everything? Really want some advice! If you don't want to post on the thread, feel free to PM me! thanks!

I recently started loom beading as well, and if I see a pattern or a piece of a pattern online that I like I draw it on graph paper with the colors I'm going to use on the actual loom and build my own pattern around the specific piece. Takes more time but also helps so you don't have any mistakes when you start on your loom.

There is a computer program called Bead Tool.   Very easy to use and you can create and print your patterns.   Not very expensive, but worth it.   I look at Navajo clothes, pottery, rugs and stuff like that to get my ideas from.   Have FUN

Software programs are great! Just on a side note for everyone that may read this thread please don't try to recreate other people's original designs. Some are making a living off this and they guarantee their customers custom designs

I agree with you! I wouldn't want to steal anyone's designs. Just interests me how they can make those pistols or skulls out of beads. I'll look into that Bead Tool program. Hopefully it's not too hard to use!

I'm one who does sugar skulls, pistols, brands, words, feathers, flowers, broncs, etc. I draw them and then transfer the drawing to special peyote graph paper.

Look on pinterest for some inspiration! there is some neat stuff out there. Also any patterns of anything can translate into an awesome design.
