At a small jackpot I dont think it would really matter not having a clock to watch, now at a big race yes I would like to be able to see the times.

With all of the times I have heard of someone padding the times to move themselves into a good position I would prefer a visible clock. But that would leave me with very few races to go to around here. Back in the day I never thought much of it. But seems to be many dishonest people nowadays

I mostly rodeo, so a visable clock is a novelty, not a neccessity, for me.

As long as they've got timers.... I don't care if they have a visible timer board posted or not.  They do need to have 2 people working on times.  Other than that, it's no big deal.

A visible clock does not mean that they will get your time correct. At a show with approximately 600 entries, a friend's time was called out wrong. She happened to buy her video Γ nd the time was announced different from the display. It dropped her from 3rd in the 1D to 7th in the 1D and cost her the 1D average. She called them and they said they did not make mistakes. She took a picture of the display and sent it to them. They ended up paying her the difference in the two places and the average money.

The idea here is that it does not make any difference what the display says if they call your time out incorrectly your placeing will change. You better have someone listening for you or buy your video every time.

This happened to me a month ago. I thought FOR SURE my time would win me a check. I went and looked at the results after they were posted, my time on my video was not the same as the time listed on the results. Luckily, I was able to show the video and they fixed the results and wrote me a check. . . Electronic displays are becoming a necessity, IMO.

Times are changing, and people aren't always honest.

Β I think sometimes errors may be a lack of total concentration on the task at hand. It can be hard to fb, text, and be accurate at all three each time, lol!!

Just an FYI, if you ever greatly question your time that was called for whatever reason, most timing systems these days store the times in the memory, where the secretary should be able to go back and prove it to you (I assume if you get up there by the end of your drag, or somewhat soon.) I did not know this until recently. Pretty handy.

One more reason I love rodeogo......texts you instantly what your time was recorded as being.  They can hook it up so that times are not manually input into the computer, it automatically reads the time from the timer.

They are also set up to PRINT out the times. That being said, there are and have been discrepancies between the actual timers and "scoreboard"......timer in the office wins!

I honestly don't think its a big deal. I recently went to Redbud AQHA show in OKC and they didn't have a clock. Every college rodeo I went to last year didn't have a clock. A lot of rodeos don't have a clock. I'm just happy if they have a timer and not a flagger.

streakysox - 2015-06-13 9:59 PM I went to an APHA show and they were timing with a IPhone. They never called out the times just the winners. I guess I have been running where there were timers for at least 40 years. Some places have timers some don't. I don't care, but a hand held IPhone is a little backwards to me.

AQHA still does that here at all the shows. You have no idea who won until it is over and they call out placings.

Sometimes we don't get to use the timer at the arena in my hometown. It's the county fairgrounds. For the longest time, the timer flat out didn't work. Then a lady whose daughter was in 4H convinced her boss to sponsor a clock with his business, but our 4H twisted the wording of the rules and completely took control over the equipment that goes WITH the timer. Anyone that wants to use the timer has to pay 4H Horse Council and then they will reimburse you or whatever if you don't break anything. It's absolutely stupid because the guy wasn't meaning to donate the timer and equipment JUST for 4H, he thought he was donating it to the fairgrounds, for everyone to use (the barrel racing associations, the posse who puts on the rodeo and playdays, high school equestrian team meets, etc).

For a long time associations had to bring their own timing system. But I noticed this year at the rodeo we were using the regular clock, so I don't know if someone convinced 4H to quit being jerks or what.

The point I was trying to make is I've ran a lot/watched a lot of races/rodeos/equestrian team meets where you didn't know the time until it was announced. It all worked out okay.

ETA we went without a visible clock for so long at my hometown rodeo that it became an annual contest amongst our group of friends to see who could be the closest at guessing the times throughout the events haha. This one older posse guy is freakishly good at guessing barrel racing times.

Does not bother me at all. I also love in central tx and a lot of arena have them so the producers will use them but could careless if they did not have them.

With barrel racing having so much money to be won and the high prices these horses sale for I feel a print sheet from the timer being posted is the most fair way to keep mistakes from happening . When there is $100000 I feel it should always be posted !
