Location: MD | I'm looking into getting my SO a saddle of his own. He's not really into barrel racing, more into trails and more using at home. I'm looking into getting him something western that will be comfy and don't know what type to go for, just want something good quality. A cutting saddle, roping, trail, all around? I don't know, and since I've been barrel racing so long I don't know what brands are good to look at. What do your pleasure riders enjoy riding in?
Not looking to buy right away, just keeping an eye out for a few months because he won't be riding regularly until fall. I just don't know how many more times I can cram him into my 14" without injuring "something" if you catch my drift. |

| I've heard that Tucker trail saddles are very comfortable and I think they have memory foam seats? I also have a Roohide cutting saddle that is soooo comfortable. It's a trophy saddle so we found it on Ebay for a really good price! |

Location: where ever my L/Q trl is parked | I had a Tucker Gen II w/gel seat and it was comfortable, but I felt I was sitting way above my horses' back took a long time to get use to that, but it was a nice saddle. It's definently not a close contact saddle and I did sale it! My late husband bought a Circle Y trail saddle flex 2 and now I use it. It pretty light weight and comfortable for trail riding and I have used it for barrel racing a few times. If weight is no problem for lifting I would suggest a all around type saddle. Circle Y makes good saddles and I've never had a bad one. Oh, wait the ME effx I purchased years ago that CY made was a piece of crap, but that was the only one. Lots of good used saddles on ebay or here. |

Location: That part of Texas | The one place that I know who has saddles for this type of thing (not needing something way expensive or extremely high quality) is Coolhorse (www.coolhorse.com) where you can log on and just keep an eye out for some of the pleasure/trail riding saddles. They are pretty good to talk over the phone too and if needed, I could probably go down to the store for you if you need me to look over a saddle before you buy online. They have free shipping (or used to) on their saddles and I've had one sent to my house with no problems. I bought my saddle from them for $250 and got a steal that way. It's a good resource just to stalk in the meantime to keep an eye out for some of the better, less frilly saddles. |

For an average sized guy a 16" would be a good bet.
Valley Vet and Circle Y have a demo program.

| Tucker saddles are exceptional for trail riding but I have some friends who love their synthetic trail saddles. You can go through deep water or ride in the rain without worrying about hurting the leather. I think theirs are Wintec but I am not sure. These people used to barrel race and always had nice saddles. They are into comfort now. I got on one and it was comfortable. |

Location: Willows, CA | I think that the most versatile tree is the association. I ride a slick fork saddle, but I am from Northern California and grew up with that tradition. They are not for everybody. If you want to go that way a Wade is great You might look at the saddle section at ranchworldads. There is almost always something there. |

Location: MD | thanks ladies! i have so many great ways to go here, of course I started window shopping and found about 4 that are almost perfect! go figure!!
I'm excited for him, I think a 16" will be perfect size. I know he wants to ride more and I think having tack of his own will do the trick!  |
