My gelding was being looked over by a vet about four weeks ago and he got an erection when he started running his hands down his back.  He had never done this before, so we let it slide.  He then started doing it every time I saddled him... and he did it a week and a half ago when he was getting adjusted.  Chiropractor removed a bean and said that we could look further next time she sees us  if they still occured.

Treated him with antibiotics for four days for a kidney infection (as per different vet) last week and I rode him for the first time last night and he didn't get one when I saddled... but he had a massage afterwards and got one when she started working on his (lower) back area.

We have a vet appoinment Monday and I will be discussing it with the vet, but I'm curious if anyone has had this happen before or has any insight...  I'm almost positive it's pain related and not just because he feels good.

We have a gelding that EVERY single time the massage therapist came, he not only got an erection but actually would drip. As it continued and she started on his legs, the more she tried to rub his legs, the worse he got...would start shaking and, well, let's just say it got way too good to him...she'd have to stop two or three times and let him settle down for a few minutes. She said he was the ONLY horse that did that.  He was a solid 1D horse but only when he was on a regular massage schedule, so we dealt with....embarrassing to witness and pretty funny at times too.  I swear I think I saw his eyes roll to the back of his head a time or two!!!

Very interesting...  He was dripping something (not urine, not sweat) when he got adjusted, but not sure what it was!

Did your gelding act like he had any problems with the massages or just feel good "problems".  I am leaning towards it being a pain issue because he wasn't relaxed and he acted more like he wanted to get away from the massage... Not more into it.

His problem was that it just plain felt too good to him. Dripped what would appear to be urine.  He was running so hard and winning so much back then that I guess the massage was just very, very enjoyable to him and it got him aroused...or so it certainly seemed.

I have a horse that drops all the time, and it doesn't matter who he is with. If you get him out of his stall and you start talking to people he drops, you brush him and saddle him he drops, massages he drops, putting on his blanket, feeding him his grain or hay, any kind of attention or human interaction he drops. Super competitive horse that wins a lot and has always dropped. Owned  him for 8 years and he would drop then too. I figure that is just him. He is happy when he is with people and I think that is how he shows he is happy for the attention. LOL

edited to add that he came from an abusive home before that left permanent damage to his face and legs. don't know if he is just so grateful for a loving family that he shows me everyday how much he appreciates it.

I had a gelding that was the same way!  He would never drip but would always drop when he was around me, started the day I bought him.  Hence the reason we started calling him Richard.

We had a gelding that everytime he was shod would get incredibly aroused and drip.  The farrier had to take frequent breaks to allow the gelding to simmer down.  You can't tell me that getting trimmed is THAT exciting.

It's so funny that you say that because he's the first horse that I've had that is extremely easy to catch!!

He does get extremely relaxed (and not firm!) when I put his BOT quick wraps on him, but I swear this is something new and I really don't think it's a pleasurable thing for him.  He never did it the first year I owned him, but these past few weeks are the most he's been saddled and rode in the past nine  months.

Definitely got a kick out of reading all the stories!!
