Whats a realistic price for a 1/2D horse at local races? Local being roughly 60-100 riders on average. Horse's age: 5-15yrs old. Low/some maintenance required. Looking to have fun on the weekends with local associations.

In my local district, knowing the horses that run here and where they clock at the big races. If I had a horse like that I would be looking to get about $20-25k for it.

Some local races are tougher than others and that plays a big part in it. You can also find some horses for a better deal if their owners are in a bind and need to move them quickly.

I'd say 15k-25k depending on who you buy from, location, and the horse. More than 25k and id be expecting to get in the 1D some at big shows, 15k i'd say 2/3D at big shows.

depends on how often they are in the 1D versus the 2D. I had a gelding who was more of a local 2D horse but occasionally crept in the 1D. he would usually be in the 1D cracks if anything... He sold for 14k but was also a cribber so that dropped his price a hair.

If I had a horse who was pulling 1D checks with the occasional 2D run I would be looking more on the upper end of that range.

if you look HARD I think you could get one for 10-20k.. we have gotten two that way that are now big show 1d, BUT we also bought them at about 6 with a few 1d runs under their belts and as they got more solid they are now easily worth triple that. I guess it also depends on what kind of horses youre running against. In my opinion it seems easier to get a decent deal from someone that has several that are similiar in where they place, or a trainer. Do you want a horse that is solid and 1d and probably as fast as it will be now or do you want one that may continue to get faster

Ive seen a lot of 1D/2D horses being sold from 10k-25k... Our "local" barrel race times are pretty consistent with our bigger shows. So you could run at a local jackpot w/30 horses and run a 15.7 ... you bring in a big event at that arena, a 15.7 is still in the 1D. Maybe wont win the 1D but likely place. There are a few horses that once in awhile will pull out something amazing and make your 1D horse a 2D horse but I would say we dont see a big difference in our 1D horses from local races to barrel bashes.
