Just booked our tickets to fly into Prague for a few days and then take a train to Gottingen, Germany for a wedding and travel around Germany spending the last few days in Berlin. Has anyone traveled to these places and have advice for us? I've been to Europe a few times already but not these places specifically so would love to hear if you have any advice! Thanks you!!

Ha….! It’s been a while though… I’m German, born and and raised in the Munich area, but have been living in the U.S for 20 years.

I have been to both Prague and Berlin, but that was about 25 years ago. Both are fun places with lots of sights to see. Prague has some great old restaurants with good beer and food.
I’m very partial to Bavaria, but since I grew up there that is understandable.

I’m sorry I couldn’t be of more help. Have a great trip!!!

Been to both..only advice I have is watch the pick pockets in Prague they are professional grade there but beautiful place and lots to see n do...and it's fairly cheap to travel to prague...Germany endless sights n castles and things to do...i lived there 3 years and still didn't see everything..depending on how far east you go too might be worth a train or road trip to paris..it's not far when you're already there...but Google like castle hopping in Germany and you'll find stuff close to you..there's a rhein river cruise that's cool...there are holocaust museums n stuff too if you want to catch up on history...Berlin itself has a lot to offer...the wall of course and then touristy stuff...Google will be your friend to narrow down attractions!

When I went, we purchased a rail pass--well worth it. You can decide where you want to go, hop the train for a day trip or overnight etc. Cologne was our favorite-the old cathedral was amazing and sitting at one of the outdoor cafes under it at night, drinking a beer and having German food was a dream!

This is what I did, flew into frankfurt, took the train up to amsterdam, then to bremerhaven, then to munich.. I'd have to say the sausage stands in the train station or on the streets or at a beer garten are the best!! Nothing like the brautwerst we get here in the US. The mustard is a million times better too.. I can't say anything about Prague or Berlin because I didn't go, but if you want to take a day trip somewhere amsterdam is beautiful, and you can also get to countries like france, italy, switzerland, etc. pretty easy!

Awesome advice! I'm really looking forward to this! I went to Paris and around France two years ago so we're sticking in Germany (Gottingen and Berlin area) and then of course Prague and will take a Train from Prague to Germany! I'm writing these tips down! Seems that pick pockets are all over Europe!

If you can, book onto one of the Rhein boats to go up n down the river. Nice as they stop in a lot of interesting ports. Or go into Garmish, stay down town, eat at one of the restaurants with outside seating to people watch. A lot of nice shops. Or go to Idar Oberstein, nice castle/church in the rock, and it has been known as the gemstone capital of Germany. Or stop in Heidleburg to tour the castle. Nice. Or go during the Christmas markets, lots of fun, great gifts, lots of good eats. But no matter where you go, eat plenty of good German foods. Then try to sneak home a bag of brotchen n Brots.
Either way, enjoy it now, it may not be so nice to Americans much longer.

The black forest is a beautiful place if you can make it, there is an old town that they took some houses and put them together and made a "village" out of them. It is really cool to see all the old houses. I'll ask my aunt what the name of the village is, she lives around there.

Enjoy it! You can't go wrong with tripadvisor :D

I haven't been to Germany, but I have a friend who was just there and he highly recommends seeing the holocaust memorial. My grandfather is a WWII vet who played a page part in liberating Hattem, Holland, so the next time I'm overseas that is high on my bucket list!

My son and I went for a hockey tourney in Prague and we went to Franz Ferdinand's castle, that was pretty cool.

I've only just passed through Germany and never been to the Czech Republic, but if you decide to go east some more and a little north you will reach Zakopane in Poland, which is a gorgeous horse-filled town with mountain views that cannot be beat and delicious food. Most beautiful place in the world, IMHO.
