A girl I run with would haul mare and foal to races when the foal was about 2-3 months. She didn't run the mare on barrels
(I think that would be way too much stress on both mare and foal
) but she tied the mare up and let the foal run around her

My opinion is: Leave them BOTH home until the foal is weaned. There is quite the risk of injury, AND/or illness, hauling a foal all over the place.

Thank you. I am going to air on the side of caution and wait until after weaning. It is a long story and no fault of anyone's she lost the first foal at 8 months. But I wanted to double check my instincts of being over protective. We don't run a breeding operation and never plan to. This filly is my dream horse and will remain such until the sad day I have to bury her. So I will not rush, or cut any corners; at the same time I don't want to wait too long to expose her to new things.

A good horse is a good horse. It doesn't matter if they are first exposed to things as a 2 month old foal, or a 5yo.
My stallion had never even seen or heard clippers until he was over 2yo, and yet the very first time I was able to clip his bridle path, jawline, and ears with NO HALTER. Because that is just the way he is.
