| Anyone have this issue? I can haul my quarter pony off the farm and absolutely nothing phases him. Try to ride him on the farm and he acts like a friggin lunatic spooking at everything.

Location: North Dakota | It always seems that the farmyard is always the scariest places to a horse.
Happens to our guys too. I don't make too big of a deal of it, and instead work on getting their attention back to me.

| Any suggestions for some exercises? Seems like the more I work him the worse he gets. He can be loose in the yard and of course doesn't give the things that are absolutely terrifying a second look  Of course the real fun part is I am riding him bareback still because I am having terrible issues fitting him for a saddle arg. |

Location: North Dakota | I HAVE A HORSE THAT'S THE EXACT SAME WAY! We deal with it but he's such a pain in the A. And we knew him long before we bought him. My sister and I both rode him at his old home. He was quiet as can be. You could have put a little kid on him. At my barn he's afraid of his own shadow! Never would have gotten him if we'd of known he'd change SO much. It's not even like he's trying to get out of work. He's always injured so has been a lazy putt for most of the time we've owned him. Even just leading him from the pasture to his pen he's prancing and spooky. He spooked every time I brought a full hay net into his stall for a week straight. He's terrified of the mounting block, shedding blade, plastic bags, lunge whip (I have to re-desensitize him every time I use it) sometimes if I even try to pet him he spooks.

Move shoulders.
Move haunches.
BAck up.
Serpentine
Pivot
Etc. Etc. Just keep his body MOVING. Keep giving him cues so that he HAS to pay attention to you and not the scary thing across the yard.

Location: Four Corners Colorado | Best thing I've done is catch them at chore time and take them around with you while you do chores. They learn to ignore a lot. |

Location: MD | my horse is the exact same. drives me nuts. Keeping him on a strict riding schedule helps a lot. Also I always make sure I have a plan when I go to ride. I've got to keep him from getting bored because then all the sudden he has all this time to think about the scary stuff.... You know like the terrifying barn door.... that we pass... every.single.day.

| Could something be chasing him at night in his pasture? Dogs, coyotes, bobcats? I had one that went temporarily nuts and found out later there was a group of bobcats near her pasture that chased her at night.....made her so nervous and spooky during that time that she was nearly dangerous to be around. |

| I don't think anything is chasing him, hes perfectly calm and quiet around the barn, its when I take him out and want to work him that he turns into a brat. I honestly don't think hes afraid of any of these things, hes just got a horrible pony attitude and doesn't want to work. |
