My broodie gets the same as my barrel horse - Tribute Kalm N Ez pellets. She also gets FORCO.

I don't feed them any different than any other horse. More problems are caused by over doing it than by "under doing it".

We feed oats and essential K, same basics we feed to everyone else.

We just feed free choice hay or pasture and supplement with alfalfa cubes during heavy lactation. I see no reason why all the feed companies want you to cut back on hay and feed broodmares concentrate. It is a waste of time and money to me, just the same as feeding concentrate to non working horses and cutting back on hay to do so. This does require top quality hay with protein content above 14%. Native range pastures usually have good forage if rainfall is enough. In places where it rains quite a bit, fertilization is usually necessary. Green grass or even green hay, doesn't necessarily equal high nutrient content though.

Nothing special until the last trimester. Good pasture, water and free choice minerals. Then I add cubes or perinneal peanut hay.
