are there any brands out there that have specific research behind them or that are approved by a veterinarian? Looking for the most soft tissue support and superb fit I can find. Thanks

SMB's are designed to protect against blunt trauma. None of them give tendon support. They may advertise that they support but they do not. Years ago we called SMB's rundowns. They were actually designed to protect the pasterns of race horses when they ran on sandy tracks. The sand would often burn the back of the pasterΓ±. Gradually their use became popular with performance people. Before SMB's we all used true splint boots that just protect the inside of the leg from the other other leg(hoof) striking it.

That's what I was thinking, thank you for your reply. I've used all kinds through the years but have another horse coming back from a major front end wreck and just want to be as preventative as I can with him.

I absolutely love love love the Iconoclast front & back boots! They provide so much support! Even in the deepest ground dirt and sand do not get in them & irritate their legs. When you put them on and pull them tight they stay put. They don't slip around. With everyday use they wear good too. If your looking for colors your out of luck. I believe they still only come in black & white. I've tried ALL of them and I think the Iconoclast boots are the absolute BEST!!!

What I suggest is to wrap the horse's front legs with Cool pack Green Jelly, Nobows and standing wraps for several days before you run and anytime you haul even a short distance. Just the horse with the leg problems. Make SURE that you know how to wrap correctly. I have been a close friend of Martha Josey for years and she keeps a person to just wrap legs on her good horses. She starts wrapping about two weeks before a big show like QH Congress or NBHA World. Go to YouTube and watch the video on wrapping standing wraps. I like the one put on there by AQHA and another good one is by Andrea Flemming. They do not mention thiz, but be sure that you wrap the left leg counterclockwise and the right leg clockwise. To help you remember it is the direction you would turn a barrel. Like you turn the right barrel clockwise.
