Looking for some insite on finding a city that may be about halfway between Houston and Austin. Looking for affordable ( school system not important) and with some land ( somewhere between 5-10 acres). We looked a little at Waller and a friend mention Brenham. Thoughts?

Giddings, Bastrop, La Grange are all between Houston and Austin, lots of BB's on here that live in these areas.  Waller is more a suburb of Houston.  Brenham is beautiful, closer to Houston than Austin and can be pricy.  Giddings is beautiful too.

I was from Minnesota and moved to Bastrop after marrying my wife last year. I love this area and a lot of the surrounding towns like Giddings and Brenham. The whole area is very horse friendly, really. I can't say enough good things about the people.....I just love them.

I don't live in TX but been through enough times to know basically anywhere in TX is horse friendly lol My favorite area in TX is the Tyler area, BEATIFUL! Of course that's no where near Houston or Austin but had to say it haha, would've loved to move there but couldn't find a job that would pay enough. Sorry I wasn't much help haha

Two important things in TEXAS when buying land for horses ........ look at the taxes in the county and if it has black gumbo dirt .. RUN!!

Look until you find some sandy soil !!!

Look around Giddings and Groesbeck Texas for counties with low tax rates ... one county is almost owned by Alcoa and pays most of the taxes another has a power plant that pays majority of taxes .... if you step across a county line your taxes can increase 2-3X's .. ... and in any county ... inquire where the water lines are and who can buy a meter to have water and the cost of hookup etc ... water wells can end up very deep and expensive to drill ...

GOOD LUCK ..

Giddings and Groesbeck are literally 120 miles apart.

To the OP,

Giddings is almost exactly in the middle of austin and houston.

Pretty decent little town and has a rather serious concentration of NFR cowboys and cowgirls in relation to population.

I'm not sure they feel this way the last few months!    Oh how I miss my Blue Bell ice cream.

Well, Sid Bass, some rich guy has in vested a bunch in Blue Bell to help get it back on the shelf. He is my new best friend. Hopefully, it is on the way. I guess old Sid likes it as much as we do. Laughing

Blue Bell has been making ice cream for 109 years.
