I ran my with no shoes. I kept him out on pasture 24/7 and trimmed every 6 weeks.

Navicular is a broad term for several situations causing heal pain. Going barefoot with a knowledgable trimmer could help if you new what was causing the heal pain or you could be wasting time.

Ran my gelding for 2 years barefoot. He was severly navicular with a side bone and ring bone. Barefoot was the only way he could be relatively comfortable. I kept him outside as much as possible but he hated being outside, he was a bug sissy! But I have a great farrier and he kept his heals down and just a natural trim.. I only worked him on soft fluffy ground. And only ran him on good ground, sometimes you just have to pick and choose but I loved running him and he loved his job.

I had a gelding in the late 90's that I hauled for several years with good success. He was at his most sound when kept barefoot. I sold him on to you a HS girl who ran him barefoot for several more years before retiring him.

Thank you all! I feel like shoes is what got him in this mess! I went barefoot 1 1/2 yrs ago on my barrel horse and love it and do my own. I have pulled out pete Ramey tapes I have and watched navicular part. I got to get the navicular horse over heel pain and go from there.
( not my barrel horse
) course vet says he needs shoes
