Haven't been here for a while ! Seeking information on horses that develope an allergy to fly bites. My 6 yr. old filly is getting terrible welts from the bites and has rubbed her hair off on her jowls ! Is there any natural remedy? We don't have a big fly problem here, but she is pretty sensitive to the bites. Any ideas would be welcome. I spray her daily with fly spray, and limit her turn out, otherwise she is in her stall with a run. I'm going to try "swat" on her jowls today. Any body else had experience with this ?

My 9 year old got allergic to fly bites and blew up like a blow fish. Took her to the vet and they gave her steroids and, antibiotics, and a shot for her allergies. She's still healing after 3 weeks.

I have been hearing good things about Bug Check but haven't tried it yet. I have seen good results off of garlic though as far as repelling flies. Vinegar will help the skin to heal. Itch Magick will help the itchiness.

We add granulated garlic to their feed which I think helps but I also spray them.

I just started one of ours on a garlic/echinacea product last week and it seems to be helping. I'll try to find it and post the link tomorrow.

Endure fly spray works great ..have to use daily even though it says it will last 7 days or more it doesn't lol...and then smart pak makes a supplement for horses sensitive to bugs n flies that isn't too pricey with garlic n other stuff in it seems to help a lot ...a friend of mine uses it with good results...i just keep mine hosed down with endure :)
