Came across this interesting little article. https://www.doubledtrailers.com/riding-backwards-how-a-rear-facing-trailer-design-may-be-healthier-for-your-horse/ . Based on what they're saying though, my horse is a weirdo. In an open stock he likes to face perfectly forward.

I used to have a Morab gelding that preferred to ride backwards. If he was not tied in a stock trailer he always turned around and facing back.

I'm not disagreeing with the article and I've seen lots of horses turn and face the rear if they have an option.   Don't know why they do it, but I think it's because they don't care for the wind in their face.  If you watch horses and cows out in pastures or open range when it's really windy they will turn away from the wind.  SO I think that's why of it.  And if it's so much better for the horses to ride backwards why doesn't the manufactures only build trailer with reverse loading?  Ok, forget extra materials it take and cost... most of are use to the prices.

My daughters had a 4Star dealership and sold about 1/4 reverse load trailers. The manufacturers will build whatever buyers want regardless of what a horse wants. In a stock trailer, when we loaded colts, they usually rode facing back. It might be a wind thing. Our own horse trailers have always been conventional slant loads.

Someone in the comments on the article mentioned that. Their design is super neat. If I could afford it someday I'd try one. Just thought it was interesting.

Not only does my horse prefer to ride backwards, he loves the canvas top stock trailer the best! Go figure!

I would love to have a backwards facing trailer. When I trailer a single horse they always turn backwards and prefer it. I have a slant and would like to reverse where their heads and butts are when hauling a full load but without changing the dividers I think they would just bite and play with each other :)

Scamper liked to ride backwards.

I was told by a reputable source that scamper preferred to lay down in the trailer, and charmayne thought that was one of the main reasons he lasted so long going down the road.

Our show heifers would be laying down before we even got out the gate, lol. I was always afraid to let the horses lay down in the trailer. I have it in my head they could hurt themselves getting up. That is interesting that Charmayne let Scamper lay down, though.
