I bought a new all natural fly spray.... (natures force green bottle safe for children and pets even supposedly) just essential oils.... I didnt test spray an area.... Gave my good gelding (he is the worst) a solid spirtz over and now my young mare is breaking out serious contact dermatitis. He has welts esp in spots that got a heavy spirtz and a few started oozing. Scared me half to death first thought was pigeon fever but no fever, eating fine, active,  no swelling on chest, no discharge just large hives exaclty where I sprayed a few hours ago so Ive calmed down. 2 of 3 horses broke out in hives and Im still waiting the 24 hours on the third. So becareful folks!! Test spray an area!! Im back to pryhana.

Don't blame yourself! Those commercial bends are pretty untrustworthy unless you know where they are getting their ois. I love Pryhana fly spray.

That really sucks...I would take pictures and document everything and give the company a call tomorrow and let them know the reaction you got and, of course, get a refund.

Have you bathed them yet to get the rest of it off?

sorry that happened to your horses,  I can't use Pryhana for that reason, welts all over where the spray hits.

I have burned horses a couple of times with oil based fly sprays, both the essential oils and chemical ones.  I burned a horse with Bigeloil once too.  Crap happens.

We are pretty sure that's what happened to my guy that got so bleached out, then sunburned this summer. The horseflies were so bad we were spraying them down morning and night, trying new spray, even a homemade mix. It was just too much. The rest were fine but he had a horrible time. A LOT of his hair fell out. I finally got him healthy again and he still has patchy hair on his butt. The skin is healthy and it's growing though.
We live and learn. I know next summer what not to do!!

Oh you bet im documenting this! ALL three have them now! I didnt spray the mini and she is free and clear. NTO As soon as I figured out what it was (and not some horrid disease) I bathed in cold water. Im giving them another bath and going to sather my gelding as he is the worst with cream on the ones that cracked and oozed. He is at least looking better, my mare seems to have peaked no oozes, and hubbys gelding (was sprayed the lightest) has just has a few small welts. Poor guys!! Thank you all! Its just awful... :(

Can you keep them inside? I can say that my gelding really started getting better when I got him out of the sun.

I had the very same thing happen when I tried a new fly spray. It was horrible. My gelding also go horrible welts and a couple of spots even lost the first layer of skin. Def looked like a chemical burn.

I am went back to pyrnaha too.

I washed my horses in dish soap (to remove the chemical). I then sprayed them with a 50/50 mix of listerine and water.

Wow! this is crazy!! I use a natural oils spray on all my dogs for fleas and ticks and haven't had any negative reaction to it so far and it's worked well. What a bummer! I always thought oils were super easy on animals and people but apparently not this one! I wonder if there is something else in it.
