| I would appreciate any help anyone could give. We just got a phone call from the Sheriff's Department about a mare that we used to own. She is the victim of a horse abuse case. The guy couldn't get her to lead, so he tied her to the back of an SUV to make her lead. She ended up falling down and he just kept dragging her. She has welps, rope burns, and road rash all over her body. I'm stuck at work and do not have my AQHA ID on me to get a look up. At first they told us that we could take her to our house, but now we are being told that if she along with 2 or 3 others is seized, they will have to go to a horse rescue. Any advise would be great or even a look up.
Her registered name is Gun Smoken Summer.

Location: In the Hills of Texas | If they did this to her I would doubt they would have spent the money to get her transferred in their name..Sad..
I'll go try to look it up for you.
I just pm'd you the info.

| Thank you. Sadly they did transfer her. My husband just got off the phone with the investigator on scene and they are putting all of the horses on lock down for tonight. They cannot get a Search & Seizure until 7 am. The guy is going to jail over it. The investigator will not release her directly to us. She has to go to a rescue first but he is going to keep us informed and they are going to try and get her to us as quickly as possible. We are both members of the Mounted Patrol for the Sheriff's Office and I reserve for them as well. I am going to call and start getting letters of reference in the morning from vets, shoer, etc so hopefully we can expedite the process. I am gathering all of the videos and pictures I can find of her.
This little mare was my husband's main sorting horse, but anyone could ride her, even people that had never rode. She ended up having a stifle issue so we switched her over to a back up horse and a horse for our daughter. We had some "friends" looking for a step-up horse for their daughter and so we let her try her for over a month, penning and sorting, and trotting around the barrels. We sold her to them (at a major loss to us) for their daughter. My husband had a handshake deal that we would be able to buy her back for their purchase price if they ever sold her. We ended up having a falling out for other reasons. We didn't even know they had sold her until we saw the current owners with her some time later. It was all downhill for this mare after that. She was probably about 100lbs lighter than when we had her. Borderline thin. (We like ours a little bigger, with the rounded bootys, etc) The guy struggled with her whenever he rode her. He even went to my husband about help with her because he couldn't get her to move like we were able too. He knew about her stifle issues and didn't care. We tried to buy her back, but he wouldn't sell her.
Hopefully we can get her sooner than later. All we can do for now is pray! Thanks everyone! |

| Awesome. Thank you so much. I'm really hoping it's that easy. This is the first time that we have ever had to deal with this. All of the other horses I have ever sold have amazing homes and I get updates on them. |
