I had several people contact me about the carports that I have put up in my pastures. I have two of them. My trainer has at least 5 in her out side pens and probably more. This is a picture of the first one that I had put up. First of all, I shopped around Marshall for the best price and you need to look a little farther. This is two 18 ft wide carports put together. It is the boxed eve style which is a little more expensive than the regular roof. The regular roof style needs to be a foot higher because the sides come down kind of far. The boxed eve does not really need to be higher. This carport is 18 x 40 and has room for 3- 12 x12 stalls. I just have two stalls. Even though I live in NE TX, we have had two hurricanes come through here with high winds. The carport had no damage. This year we had more snow than I care to have to live through and the carport came through that well too. I have panel stalls because I need the air circulation when the temperatures get up to 105-6. I live fairly near the Priefert plant and I go to their yard sale and get the scratched panels. My horses are only in stalls when they are fed morning and night but if I need to keep one in a stall I have them The building in the picture was about $2200, (two carports put together) because I did not shop around and because I had the boxed eve and made a foot taller. The last one I had built was way cheaper ($795) because I found a construction company on Craigslist that beat the price by about $300. It is a the regular double car carport with a boxed eve and is the regular height. Don't have a picture of it. Hope this helps

I've thought that they would be a good shelter option but I wasn't sure how much of the elements they'd withstand, including high winds.

Rita and Ike came through here and did so much damage we had no electricity for a week each time. The winds were so bad that the pine trees were bent over. I would say 70- 75 mile an hour winds. I know it scared the crap out of me. The one shed that is in the picture is still fine.

We have a smaller one. With hurricane straps of course being in NC & all. It went up a month before Irene. Been through multiple storms since then. Still going strong. They install them pretty well. We got ours from Carolina Carports
