| So I've had this gelding for a few months now. When I first got him he had issues with his feet being sore, which in turn caused his back and hindquarters to get muscle soreness. I've had a few massage and chiro adjustments on him, and last time his chiro was out, she said he was good to go.
He's been very sound, on the lungeline he moves out really nice, and has tons of energy. When I get on him, he is very stiff and reluctant to move out. He's fine at a walk, but once I ask for a trot, he starts trotting but it's very stiff, then he goes back to a walk as quick as he can.
At first I thought the saddle was pinching his shoulder, but I tried riding him bareback and he was exactly the same.
I have his chiro coming back out tomorrow to check him over again, but I'm wondering what else it could be if his back is fine?
Is it possible it's just a training issue? I bought him at auction so don't really know much history on him, but he seems like he knows what he's doing. |

What are you feeding?
He is on pasture 24/7, there's not a whole lot of grass out there so he does get a flake of straight grass hah at night. As well, he gets 3 QT whole oats, 1QT Step 4 complete feed, 1/2 cup whole flax seeds and msm supplement. That's it.
When he wasn't on pasture, he was getting the same grain in addition to 2 flakes grass 1 flake alfalfa morning and night

| I'd take him to a vet before you do anything else! |

Location: Loco,Ok | This is what I have had sent to me. They wont go forward. All the chiro work and soundness. Your horse moves on fine loose in the pen saddled.. Untill you ger on. These have been pulled on and bridled up so much they wont go forward Stiff and choppy. Work you to death to get out of a walk into a trot Everytime you pick up amy on reins they stop their head go down and most all chin againt their chest. One put his chin right between his knees and all could do to get his head up or turn him any direction. Stiff and beat you to death when finally did get him to trot. One been spur stopped and backed. He was really stiff.I put them on a flag and on a cow. I took as much stop out of them as i could. They had to go. With the flag and cattle. It gave them something else to focus on and to drive or chase. Took 90 days on them to get the horse going on. I roped breakaway on a slow calf around the pen on them. I took bit out off back to a sidepull then one of my Colt hackamores. Have videos on Clampitt Ranch on FB.Now horses are pulled on and stopped so much they tought not to go. Food for thought. |

I would vet him as stiff in the front end could be many things
Navicular
Arthritis
Suspensory
Contracted heels
Etc |

| Thank you all. Watching him move, he doesn't flex his hocks much going downhill, it may be arthritis, or possibly something totally different.
I was going to book an appointment to get his teeth done, so I will have him looked over then. :) |
