What is the better sale to go to find a prospect off the track?  Fall Mixed or Winter Mixed?

Can you say for what reasons?  Better quality, lower prices, less shoppers??  I was leaning towards winter because the number of horses consigned is significantly higher.  BUT, I have nightmares about hauling up north in January!

I haven't been for many years but it always seemed like the fall sale you could find some deals and the Jan sale people were prepping for that year and horses were higher.  I know they aren't that far apart but the mindset in Jan is "new season".

Find Leslie Willis and her husband in the crowd and bid on whatever they are bidding on ... they do their research and pick some good barrel horses .... some turn out great .. others are sold to people that run at local events ... in either case ... they have a good eye for what they are looking for .

What is interesting is barrel racers will stick their noses up in the air at a total race track bred horse that is for sale by individuals as barrel horse prospects and use the old nomenclature .... OF ... STUD AND MARE SHOULD BE PROVEN .... and when you look at what they are riding .. the only thing their horse has proven .. is they are never late at feeding time ... lol ..

I've bought nice horses off of both sales, but the winter sale horses are always harder on my checkbook (higher priced).

I've never been able to go, but I have gotten several from there.. either directly from a friend who bought for me, or down the line from whoever it was that bought them there.

If you can go to both, go to both, and have your budget in line. If you don't find what you want in one, try for the second.
