What are your routines when preparing for a large event? Horse, trailer tack, etc? I'm a few weeks out of a large race and I'm just curious what other people like to do to make sure everything is in order

My trailer stays packed. The only thing that I have to load is feed, supplements and the horse. I keep a bag ready with my toiletries and medicines and pick it up as I walk out the door. If it is really hot I put in some short sleeve shirts. I don't forget things that way I don't forget things.

I leave my trailer packed all the time also. Makes it a lot easier on you not to have to worry about tack and backup tack, trailer has it all in it. Just have to worry about horse, feed, and usually take a 5 gallon jug of water from home, then its just you you have to worry about. I don't ever know until last minute if Im going to a race or not, its nice to have things loaded all the time.
Have fun.

Pack like your Mama trained ya!  I get accused of packing "too much sh!t" but really.. I am prepared for all SEASONS and weather!  If we are gone for 3 days - I pack at least enough for 5 days of clothes! Then I think about rain, snow, sleet, hail, heat.. .all types of clothes. The Child Gone Wild is trained to pack like this.  Anything you forget - you can usually find a Wal-Mart - you will not die if you forgot something.

My LQ trailer stays packed, but I do give a once through before the big weekend to make sure I have my "portable containers" of supplements stocked full for the weekend. Some items - buckets; fans; magnetic blankets; feed; hay; supplements; my tack; etc.  When I return from a 3 day show - I take out all of the bedding, towels, etc - wash and put right back into the trailer, so I know it's packed for next time.
**I use a big rubermaid tub to throw non-perishable food items in and I just load one container of food and spices into the trailer. I keep paperplates, etc. stocked up in the trailer.  I pack the fridge before we hit the road. Steaks and pork steaks, hot dogs - anything we can grill.  I think I eat better on the road then at home.
** DVDs! You'll have down time - read or binge watch those tv shows we miss b/c we are too busy exercising our horses at home. LOL

Horse - just try to make sure I keep up the exercise routine. Be consistent in how you ride your horse at home and at a show. They thrive with that "comfort". Don't go changing stuff up at a show.

I need to go finish packing the trailer now.

My trailer is packed all the time also :) I try to keep it as routine as possible. has anyone used the puzzle piece mats for stalling? looking into getting some... 4 of them are 16 square feet, so would I need 8 pieces?
