I recently purchased some soft ride boots for my big gelding who is having some laminitis issues. When I measured his feet, he was in between available sizes. So I called soft-ride and asked if I should go a smaller or bigger - they said bigger. So I bought the larger pair. But now I'm having an issue with them spinning around on his feet. Is there anyway to stop this from happening? Not sure what to do....

The only thing I can suggest is put diapers on his feet, the bulk should keep the soft rides from spinning

Sounds like they are way too big in order to be actually spinning around? How much into his trim schedule did you measure his feet?

He had been trimmed 2 weeks prior.

This is not really an answer to the question, and I dont mean to barge in on this thread.. But I have a gelding that has torn through 2 pairs of soft rides. Anyone else have trouble with that. Went to get him out of his stall the other day and his foot had come clear through the hole that had torn. He is not in them 24/7 but is in them when we travel and when he is stalled in stalls that are on concrete. Any suggestions?

I would think the size smaller would be more beneficial to prevent them from spinning, mine don't move at all.

Are they too small, is your horse shod, do the shoes project further out from the heels?

I think some horses are just good at spinning them. Clifford does it all the time and his feet fill the boots. His are worn and so the gaps on the sides are bigger than they should be, and I think that gives him a little extra wiggle room to spin them or stick a foot through the side. I've started pulling them off him when he's going to be tied at the trailer alone to hopefully reduce the wear on the boots. (he's not good at standing calmly when he's alone).

This would make me EXTREMLY unhappy as expensive as they are! I'd be contacting the company. SURELY they have some sort of warranty.

I guess my question before getting upset is How long have you had the boots? My gray has worn through 2 pairs but each pair has lasted at least a year and I'm OK with that. However, if he were wearing them out in 4 months I'd be upset.

This particular horse has only been in them about 6 months. And mind you, it is not constant...

He does not have shoes. They arent to small. Just hard on them I guess. I am going to try the new "cloud" boots. I think that is what they are called. They look a little more durable. It is kinda upsetting the bottoms are perfect, the inserts are perfect, even the straps look new. But for some reason he keeps tearing through them.

That would frustrate me. The current pairs that my gray is wearing (in the trailer and standing at shows only, never wears them at home) both have some wear on the back "corners" but he's had each pair for a year & a half or more. Clifford is a bit tougher on them, and wore the backs pretty much out of his first pair in 6-7 months.

I think somebody on here had found a shoe repair place that reinforced the backs and made them last longer......man I would like to find a place like that! I have 2 pairs of 6Ls I can't use and 2 pairs of 5s that need some TLC.

I have purchased two pair used and then one pair new. The first pair I bought were still in great condition and he wore through one boot. The second pair I bought are already wearing through, and mine wear them when hauling. I bought a new pair and measured and called them too because he was in between . I went the size up and they swallow his front feet, but.... I can use them for his back. I have had issues with spinning on all three pair. I love the product, but for the cost.... wish they would last longer.
