I'm bored and window shopping for saddles on the interwebs. The plan is to have a custom version of my current saddle made hopefully in the next few months. For some reason I'm really liking the look of saddles with no roughout and a hard or inlaid seat. And alllll black. Does anyone ride in those? I just do mounted shooting and western dressage, no barrels so not quite as much speed and tight turns. If you have pics please share 'em!

Yes, it's horible. I have to use the sticky stuff that English riders use when I make a run. Still don't feel secure, but the saddle actually fits my horse.

I personally prefer some roughout, just not on the fenders. I had an all slick saddle a few years ago and it was alright, stayed in the saddle.

I always end up getting roughout fenders rather than having them tooled to save some $$ but I don't really like them. The hem of my jeans sticks to them and looks stupid.

I had a Caldwell that was all smooth and stained dark.  I loved it and never had any trouble staying seated in it.

My Jeff Smith is a smooth seat. I love it!

Is it one of their racer saddles on the cutting-ish looking tree? Those things look COMFY.

Oddly enough my backup barrel saddle was a $100 no name saddle that ended up getting used more than my $1,500 Billy Cooke! I just can't keep the stupid BC staying together. If the fenders aren't falling off, .... oh wait, it's always the fenders falling off. Usually they just come undone while I'm riding, but I broke a rib last time I tried to run in it because it came apart and came out of the saddle as I was trying to get on and I busted my lower ribs on the saddle horn...no fun at all.

Anywho, my backup saddle is just a slick, lower backed, 3 inch horn that fits me and the horse well. I need to put aluminum stirrups on it, but otherwise its a nice ride. I actually find it easier to ride in because it fits me better than my older BC.
