Location: Phoenix | I'm aware I worry about something different every month with my horse. I'm paranoid he'll die in my care or something... ANYWAY! He's been rubbing his tail all summer, off and on. He's had flaky skin on his rump as well. Today I found 2 spots (smaller than a dime) that were rubbed to the pink skin. I've finally pinpointed his itchy-est spot and it feels like a bug bite. You can't see that the skin is raised, but you can barely feel it. But he nearly falls over when you touch it! I mean, he's folding in half, stretching his neck out, chewing, licking....it's kind of alarming. It doesn't seem painful, but he wants it scratched. We were on a trail ride and he was backing into a flimsy bush to scratch it! Should I have the vet give a steroid shot? Experience anything to this extent? It's just so out of character and worries me. I've been spraying with Vetericyn to give some relief. Tried MTG when it was really flaky but did not like the results. Would something else work to help? Aloe Vera? |

Location: Phoenix | De-wormed him specifically for those in July. And I try to keep that "area" clean. Sheath is cleaned monthly too because he's good about it and doesn't mind. Hmm.... |

Location: North Dakota | We have a 3 year old that is the same way, thought I had him dewormed enough too....finally on the advice of someone on here...maybe biblia?? I dewormed with safegard AGAIN and finally he's not trying to rub the barn over. I do a different protocol than most, I give 2 doses 10 days apart and that finally worked. I do give flax every day as well. |

Location: IL | What do you deworm with? I have a mare that's been doing this on and off all summer. She itches so bad that she broke our round pen. |

| My gelding is like this too. He will take hair and hide off of his shoulders and rump if you let him. He will also chew on all 4 legs if not washed every day and fly spray reapplied. This summer he got 2 dex shots and they worked very well. I would recommend talking to your vet. They can take a skin scraping and see what it is. Nix-all or vetracyn, and a good antifungal spray with your fly spray will help a ton. |

Location: Phoenix | I'll buy some safeguard this weekend and do the 10-day double dose protocol. Vet is coming out to give my IV shot so I'll ask about the steroid. Crossing fingers!!!! |
