I don't blanket but the OTTB we just got has no hair. I need something that can withstand other horses pulling, biting on it. One of the geldings he's turned out with completely shredded - I do mean literally- a full sheet in less than 5 minutes. It was nothing but shreds. So I'm a little worried about the blanket situation!

Kensington blankets have a GREAT return policy.

These are 1680 denier, I have the same sheets in 1200 denier and have had them for 4 years, and they hold up. Mine are not too hard on them, so 1200 was enough for us, but for you the 1680 might be better.

Smartpak has one with a 10-year warranty/Gaurantee. Seriously considering it for my mutilating gelding.

It's really not that cold out right now I would leave a blanket off and allow him to get his winter hair. When it gets really cold and windy this winter I would then worry about a blanket. I know some of them look like they don't have any hair compared to others, but it's surprising how they still manage to stay warm. Mine are really just now starting to get the first bit of their winter hair, I'd give him time or he really won't have any.

Check out schneiders, sstack.com, that's the only place I'll get blankets from now and I blanket alot. You may have to just separate them
