Don't know if it is a problem or just nerves. Have had him checked by a performance vet, cleaned his sheath, and had a complete blood work up done. Never does it with regular riding, just when competing and in a full run. No soreness in back or loins. Anyone have any experience with this? His urine is clear and he has no problem dropping and going. Looking for causes and thinking he is just excited. What do you all think?? He is 10 and a big gelding.

I know of two horses who have done this. One was a huge older gelding who peed when he was running the barrel pattern - he loved his job so I assume it was excitability but I don't think the people who owned him ever had him checked over. Another one was a pony who would do it during jumping figure 8, and this one did it out of fear as she'd refuse the jump every time but they still put her in the class - don't know if it was because it hurt or she was just plain afraid of jumping but she'd get so nervous she'd start to pee. Really watch his body language. Does he swish his tail and pin his ears? Or are his ears forward and perky? It all depends.

If you wear spurs take them off.

Never pins his ears, but has always been a bit of a tail swisher. Have him adjusted 1-2 times per year and that helps some. Rarely use a whip on him and never spurs. He has about 6 more runs this year and then the winter off. If it persists may try to get more answers in the spring.

No spurs, and rarely a crop.

My mare was doing this vet sonogram bladder. She had calcium build up , was too painful for her to evacuate all,her urine when she ran it was forced out.
He treated with a dog medicine catherized I put her on bucca leaves in night feed. I give 3 cc lasix two hrs out when I run so she is clear in bladder she has stopped when I run

I would most definitely think there is something wrong.....look around-do you see ANY other horses doing it?? Me neither.....there's some underlying cause and I would say it is directly caused by the bladder-have a good urinalysis done-guessing you are going to find stones that is causing the bladder to not function correctly.
